Don't worry, this will be the easiest tax bill to defeat in history

Let's get right into it:

Besides incorporated businesses, the largest beneficiaries by far of this bill will be married couples with income between $480,050 and $1 million annually. That income will go from being taxed at 39.6% to 35%, a 13.1% tax decrease. And not coincidentally, that is the largest band in the whole scale (I mean, other than "over $1 million," obviously).

People making between $0 and ~$18,000 per year will actually see their tax rate INCREASE (!!!) from 10% to 12% (heartless pricks).

No more $7,500 tax credit for purchase of electric automobiles (that was one for the mouthbreathers).

I really can't talk about the estate tax. It just defies logic.

All of the above is total horseshit. But what's really going to crash this bill is the coordinated opposition on the part of the home builders and realtors. The Republicans were so desperate to give money away to top earners and dead rich people that they raided a massive market that has broad participation.

That sweeps up A LOT more houses, and is particularly galling to the builders and realtors because that's their sweet spot.

Sorry, I've been looking for the answer to this question, haven't found the answer yet. It would have to be a HUGE mortgage to have $500k in mortgage interest in these low interest days. If it caps it on a $500k loan, that is totally different

Yes, $500k in mortgage interest in one year would be an eight or even nine figure loan.

How hard is it to amend to include a sweetener to leaders of any group? Just enough to satisfy them.

Also, don't forget, they have tucked away into this monstrosity language that repeals the Johnson Amendment that prohibits non-profit organizations from endorsing or opposing political candidates. This is something the evangelicals have wanted for years and they are going to fight hard to get the right to endorse candidates from the pulpit and keep their tax exempt status!

are north of $50,000/year. The loss of the ability to deduct that will cause a deterioration in our standard of living and care. But hey! It's for a good cause, right?

Yes. I already contacted my ultra right-wing Congressperson.

The discussion is always either too inaccessible or laughably condescending.

This bill:

LOWERS taxes on those making between $480,000 and $1 million

RAISES taxes on those making under $18,000 (I mean, still, this is just cruel)

Any economic benefit to lower corporate rates is:
1. Dependent on what business exemptions are cut, and
2. Entirely dependent on full faith in trickle down, supply-side, voodoo economics, which we tried for 30 fucking years with, to be kind, "mixed" results.

THE ESTATE TAX CURRENTLY AFFECTS ONLY THE TOP 0.2% OF ESTATES! WHY TOUCH IT?!?

One I missed earlier: THIS BILL ELIMINATES DEDUCTIONS FOR INTEREST ON STUDENT LOANS AND ON EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES.

This bill will hurt Republican congressmen in blue states. Losing deductions for state income taxes, mortgage interest for homes costing more than $500,000 will hurt a huge number living in Rohrbach’s California district.
