Massive accident at NK nuclear bomb test-site could endanger their whole program.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/11/1/1711741/-You-KNOW-the-News-Cycle-is-Gonzo-When-the-Possible-Collapse-of-NK-s-Nuclear-Threat-Is-Hardly-Noted

North Korea’s Punggye-ri facility has suffered a devastating collapse, leaving around 200 people dead.

Around 100 people were killed when when an unfinished tunnel collapsed at Kim Jong-un's main nuclear testing site.

Another 100 people subsequently died while attempting to rescue the first group of entombed workers.

Foreign experts had warned a collapse was likely, highlighting the danger of a cloud of radioactive fallout escaping from the site and spreading across "an entire hemisphere".

...

This test is blieved to have badly destabalised the mountainside-based facility.

Speculation is now growing the tragedy could bring a halt to Kim Jong-un's nuclear ambitions, which he hoped would see the hermit nation rival the capabilities of America.

...

This is a HUGE development, not just because of the potential delays, but also because of what seems to be a very real threat that the mountain itself could collapse, and in so doing, release clouds of highly radioactive material into the atmosphere, creating a threat to itself and its neighbors including China, South Korea, parts of Eastern Russia and Japan.

...

I have seen some analysis that there are limited geological structures that can be used for such testing and in a relatively small country like North Korea this may be the one optimum site. It also seems likely that the tunnel collapse and damage to the entire mountain facility would be a huge setback to testing overall and possibly to North Korea’s ability to produce nuclear weapons.

1. Trough break for Trump, he was really looking forward to that war.

Looks like we'll need to find another boogeyman to start a war with.

However, if the accident did happen, it wouldn't be surprising. North Korea is not generally known for its technological brilliance.

4. Check source: NO MAJOR NEWS AGENCY IS REPORTING THIS

this is likely not true, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NYT, nothing.

This would be a major story if true.

6. German news media (incl. RT Deutsch, Sputnik propaganda outlets) reported on this a few days ago

Some usually credible sources, too.

E.g. http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/nordkorea-atomtest-soll-hunderte-menschen-getoetet-haben-a-1175848.html

They say reporting is based on TV reports from Japan.

Today, Spiegel Online reported that North Korea denies the reports:
http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/nordkorea-dementiert-berichte-ueber-tote-bei-atomtest-a-1176160.html

So it's not clear who's right and who's wrong. I haven't seen reports about possibly dangerous radioactive fallout.

8. On edit: the only US-based media I found was The Hill and Fox

Both reference the Japanese news story. It also referenced a US Geological Survey that monitored quakes as strong as 6.3 and a satellite image that potentially showed a collapsed rock area but it’s all subjective. There are no other reports other than the one station and no intelligence services have mentioned it publicly either. There is significant evidence they are preparing for another test. It seems unlikely they could test in a collapsed facility.

I think it should be taken with a large amount of scepticism until validated by multiple sources.

11. yeah this story seems to be some sort of psyops bullshit

it could be real, or it could be some sort of veiled threat. I'm sure that we are working on some sort of remote sabotage effort as we did with Iran's program.

If that facility and mountain had a catastrophic failure, akin to how they describe, i would worry about massive amounts of radiation spilling out over a huge area, making Chernobyl look like a bake sale.

7. There was a SK report of a seismic secondary quake
Thu Nov 2, 2017, 06:30 PM
Nov 2017

not too long after the last explosion. As I remember they said it did not resemble a man made quake like an explosion, but a natural quake more like a colapse.

Maybe this is what they are referring to which would old news except for their details and analysis.

So, the entire site may have been seriously compromised, be it the damage described in original report or this one. Think Maddow covered that initial report because the ensuing earthquake (which was sizable) did not conform to a 'natural' event.

The quake from a test is very specific, so much so that they can use it to pinpoint location, size and type of weapon that was tested. Each type of device has its own seismic “fingerprint”.
