had fox news on in the bedroom she is staying in. She told me how she loves fox.
Right now, she is down stairs eating the pasta fajioli I slaved to make for her visit.
I went into that room and parental controlled the blocking if FOX, One America and Newsmax.
She ain't getting her fill of rw trump propaganda while staying here.
I also set her tv to MSNBC.
She might not stay the night.

(37,748 posts)Your concern with little more than a blocked tv channel in one's own home almost sounds sincere.
Though a dramatic soundtrack may more efficiently allow your implication of intolerance a less fictional weight of gravity.
Thankfully, it appears no one will be running a marathon while bleeding from a small cut. That would be horrid indeed, no?

(22,482 posts)husband off of his addiction to Fox and conservatism. She changed the channels.
Sometimes people don't even know they have a choice.
Besides, after watching some of Fox and Friends, I think it is disrespectful of women to even watch Fox. The way they make pretty women sit in mini skirts on a couch and they have a camera set up that if one of them opened their legs you could see right to their crotch is despicable. It is not news. It is for dirty old men like O'Reilly and Ailes to star at women.
I wouldn't allow Fox in my house. I'd do the very same thing.

(21,157 posts)If we can deprogram them there lives and health will improve. I had to stop watching cable news after the election. My stress level went down. I only read politics, not watch it anymore. My husband was upset I stopped watching and now hes cool with it. The other night I turned it on to see a bit of Nueller Monday fun only lasted 5 minutes. I used to saturate in 3-4 hours a night, not anymore.

(81,304 posts)I would have, but would have made clear that I do not allow Fox News in my house (especially when I'm paying for it, and for the TV, and for the house).
And truly and sincerely, I don't. I don't want it in my cable package, either. There are just certain things I won't allow, in my house.
Similarly, I told a girlfriend, when I heard her hiss "that BITCH" under her breath, about Hillary Clinton, that I will not allow that in my house. Period. NOBODY calls Hillary Clinton a bitch in my house.
I always try to be generous and accommodating. But there are some things that, for me anyway, are simply not allowed. If it's MY house, it's MY rules. You agree to that when you voluntarily step inside. Sorry to be such a hard-ass about it, but thereya go.

(51,608 posts)That is very nice of you to go to all that work. If I were you I would be like the "soup Nazi" and say, "No pasta for you as long as you watch that". Fortunately for me my family always talks politics and religion at family's dinners but since we are three generations of hard core Dems and Atheists it is always good time. My outgoing phone mess. since Jan is "You have reached ***-**** please leave a message unless you're a Republican then please run along". Most people like it but two former Repub friends don't think I am serious for some reason. I say "stick to your guns and good for you!".

(25,862 posts)Although I will suggest going even farther. No TV in the guest bedroom. And maybe even no TV of any kind in the house. Honest, we are not required to have televisions in our homes.
But if you do want to have one (and one is an adequate number) you make sure it won't get Fox, etc. Better yet, turn off the TV, make a no politics rule, and play cards or a few board games.
And those who think you aren't being a gracious host have it wrong. You are never obligated to put up with crap like Fox in your own home.

(3,608 posts)allowed to watch in the privacy of their guest room. If you get the channel a guest - family member should be 'allowed' to watch it. I can understand that you don't want to discuss anything tRUMP - and that she is to please not mention him AT ALL. But I think what you are doing is really going way too far. Would you like that being done to you if you were a guest in someone's home?
I visit my Aunt in Indiana and she's a big tRUMPer and a big R in general. I can't imagine her telling me I'm not allowed to watch the libturd shit in her house....just thinking about it I'm doing mad side eye.

(5,937 posts)when she was dying of cancer because she voted for Trump, no lie, it broke her heart that two of her granddaughters were not there. I am not saying your situation is anything like that at all but only that we can all take things too far and lose sight of what really matters.

(17,298 posts)I don't mean to be harsh to you, as you clearly agree with my sentiments or you wouldn't be a DUer. What we disagree on is how strongly to hold Trump voters accountable.
I went for dropping 4 friends of 30 years ( I managed to hold my nose during Bush years). I reduced time with brother dramatically. Dad, who has early dementia I still stay engaged with and if he brings up any dump crap I don't let him get by with false statements. In my opinion, dump voters need to feel the pain. Dump is only one ignorant asshole. It is the millions of voters I won't let off the hook.
All this said, my condolences on losing your mother. I lost mine a few years ago, and it was/is the most painful experience of my life.

(13,616 posts)Fox is used to intimidate, if she has a belly full of your pasta, she has no right to try and intimidate in your house. Sorry to say, if she needs charity thanks to Trump, you can gain satisfaction knowing none of her new "friends" would be the ones feeding her. if she hauls off and does nto stay the night, do not worry, she will come back soon enough.

And if that makes me look rude, well, ok, I'm rude.
Yes a host has to be gracious, but the person invited has to be too. She have to consider what might bother you and not impose her point of view. It is common courtesy.

(113,336 posts)years ago, one of my dearest friends was in a coma in icu. I came in the second morning, and the tv channel was on fox (which it had NOT been the day before)
I looked at it, looked at the attending RN and said, "well, if anything were going to bring her out of the coma, listening to this bs would have done it. Now, please find something else."
it was done. no fox for the last days of her life.
