(Federal court) 2 indicted in 2011 killing of Oakland boy (who was ONE YEAR OLD)
Two alleged gang members were indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on charges of murder, assault, weapons violations and racketeering in connection with a spree of violence last year in West Oakland, including a shooting that killed a 1-year-old boy.
Dionte Houff, 30, and Houston Nathaniel III, 23, both of whom are members of the Acorn gang, and a third gunman opened fire on a group at Seventh and Willow streets on Nov. 28, hitting Hiram Lawrence, 1, and six other people, the indictment said.
Hiram was shot in the head and died at Children's Hospital Oakland 11 days after the shooting when his parents, Hiram Lawrence and Brittany Houston of Oakland, had him removed from life support.
At least two people in the group returned fire. The gun battle was captured on surveillance video from the adjacent State Market liquor store. The three hooded assailants had opened fire on a group that had just filming a music video outside the store, in the shadow of the elevated BART tracks and across from the West Oakland postal processing center.
