Learning our lessons

Tuesday November 8th, 2016 is a date that will forever be etched into my mind. I was flying home from an interview and in the airport before getting onto my flight all the exit polls indicated Sec. Clinton would win the election. I breathed a sigh of relief and got on the plane. 5 hours later I get off and i call my mom who sounded so scared on the phone. My first thoughts were "did something happen to one of my family members?" or "are my friends ok", and then she dropped the bombshell: "Trump is going to win".

As a brown guy, the son of two immigrants who came over here and worked their assess off to give me a better life, Trump's victory felt like a slap in my face. I viewed it as a segment of this country rejecting people like me because in their eyes we are not true Americans. I felt mad at fellow liberals and everyone who seemed to always be working against Clinton during the election. Every single thing she did was critiqued. While Democrats couldn't even coalesce into a united voice against the most bigoted mainstream candidate ever, Republicans put their face shields on and supported their guy who stood for literally no real conservative principles, and they did it with a smiling face for the good of the party- and it worked. They united, won, and now can make decisions that can affect the lives of millions of Americans. Meanwhile over on our side, constant bickering had led to the most qualified candidate ever losing in a gimme election.

I thought that after that election we had learnt our lesson. Yes not all liberals will agree on everything, but sometimes we have to compromise. If you think that the Democrat candidate should meet your views on every single point then you my friend are someone who is an entitled brat. Yes I said it. You must live in a bubble where the consequences of not supporting the Democrat Candidate/Party doesn't really affect you. You are the Susan Sarandon's of the world- insulated, able to act all pure because at the end of the Trump's victory doesn't really affect you.

Yet here we are again. During the worst week of Trump's Presidency when the entire focus should be on Trump and his cronies collusion with Russia and on Mueller doing a fantastic job of nailing them against the wall, we are talking about the 2015-2016 DNC primary. Remember how Republicans locked arms and yelled "Benghazi" for 3 whole years- focused on the ultimate prize of regaining the White House. Well we cant event stay on message for one goddamn week.

This week has made it clear- our party will never learn its lessons. Another three years are going to go by, we are going to continue fighting over stuff, our next candidate will not be "pure" enough for certain people, and we will lose the election once again.

Wake up and realize that we must unite for the greater good. We have to stay focused on the ultimate goal which is to hold Trump accountable and regain the congress, senate, and the white house. If we continue to bring ourselves down say goodbye to those dreams and be ready for another 4 years of republican effort to make sure that minorities, women, veterans, the poor, and the disabled are brought down.

If the consequences of 2016 and Trump's victory and how it has affected our country isn't enough to make you put aside your petty differences and work as a united team and support all Democrats, then there is really no hope for us to ever win.

Stay focused my friends. Learn from 2016. That is all.

is complain about the Asshole in chief. We need to convince people that their lives will be better under Dems than Pukes. And we aren't doing that.
