Days later, it remains unclear why the assailantPauls 59-year-old neighbor, Rene Boucherattacked the senator in the first place. Jim Bullington, a former city commission member who knows both men, told the Post that the two, who live next to each other in their gated community, often engaged in heated exchanges about politics; Boucher is a vocal anti-Trump socialist, according to Bullington, while the libertarian Paul voted against an Obamacare repeal attempt because it didnt go far enough in severing federal aid. The F.B.I. is investigating the incident, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
A former co-worker added that Boucher and Paul may have overlapped at Interventional Pain Specialists, a clinic in Bowling Green, around 2010, when Boucher worked there as a general pain management specialist and Paul, an ophthalmologist, had staff privileges. (Its unclear whether Boucher was employed at the time of the attack; the co-worker, David Ciochetty, told the Post that Boucher had sustained a neck injury and could not continue his anesthesiology duties.)

(675 posts)Who really knows the kind of abuse he poured on this neighbor, have you ever lived next to a Republican? I have one as a neighbor and he is insufferable. He still, a year after the election, displays his tRump signs just to annoy us, not to mention his political insults over the backyard fence.
Paul might have been messing with this guys wife or daughter. Maybe it was over some long standing issue regarding the local medical community.
Maybe this guy, like many of us here just had enough and he snapped, maybe Paul got his long deserved ass whippin' it wouldn't be the first or the last by any means and most of us here agree repuke politicians in general deserve to have their asses kicked.
The way I see it Paul is lucky, lucky his neighbor wasn't another republican gun humper who shot him and his family, Paul is also lucky he has good and free health care unlike most of his constituents.
Paul's injuries are relatively minor, I've had way worse broken ribs and they heal quickly so hE won't suffer any long term harm. Hopefully Paul learned his lesson and in the future he'll watch what he says and to whom. At the very least he'll learn a little humility.

(31,261 posts)Did Paul try to defend himself, sounds like he did not. Why such minor charges for a serious assault? Why all the hush, hush?
