This is America.

This is America.
So today TV reporters keep going out of their way to awkwardly describe it as "the worst church shooting in US history" because Americans only care about "Bests and Mosts" to grab and keep their attention.
Because we've had church mass murders before.
And this guy didn't kill the MOST people ever, like in Vegas.
At 12 victims he didn't even kill the most children, like in Sandy Hook.
So that's how the media has to classify them now:
This is the worst ____ shooting ever.
And then we can just fill in the blank:
Church
Mosque
Synagogue
Concert
Nightclub
Movie theater
Office building
School (select sub-category)
- Elementary
- Middle-school
- High school
- College/University
Mall/store
Park/Ball field
Gas station
Police station
Airport
Train station
Military base
Hospital/Abortion clinic
Restaurant

If you aren't used to it then suck it up and get used to it fast, because we live in a nation of cowards and corruption that will allow money, racism, and xenophobia to prevent us from making any attempt to fix the situation.
After all, this is America.

Whether it's a concert, church, mall, movie theater, school... you name it. The narrative will *ALWAYS* remain the same. There will be thoughts and prayers. The Christian right will tell the victims that they deserved it because that's what Jesus would want. The conspiracy theorists will come out and harass the victims because they think the government is coming to take their guns away. The NRA and the media will come out and divide us to make sure we don't pay attention to the common denominator in all of this: the gun. Then the gun manufacturers and sellers will get their pay day because gun nuts will buy new weapons in droves. So it will all be good until the next mass shooting. We really are insane.

There were at least 26 victims, with at least 19 more hospitalized.

That doesn't change your point - but you're understating the number dead by more than half, and the number of victims, overall, by more than 3/4.
