It will make some drugs unavailable to folks on Medicaid and Medicare...as well as the ACA...it will increase the price of drugs tremendously for those with work insurance or some other form of private insurance.
Also...VOTE THE D, VOTE THE D, VOTE THE D, VOTE THE D, as if your life depends on it because it does.

(30,481 posts)COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a final push to encourage Ohioans to vote Yes on Issue 2, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, is placing calls to more than 300,000 voters on Sunday and Monday.

I'm not much of a fan of Sanders but he and I both normally hold the same position on ballot initiatives.
I'm not in Ohio and am not very familiar with Issue 2.

..."And they've tried to make much of this battle about Weinstein himself, labeling him a "California health care CEO" and criticizing the way AHF raises hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue by buying pharmaceuticals at a discount and reselling them. And for using his large, powerful organization to wage political and legal battles.

This guy uses an aids foundation to by pharmaceuticals and then resell them for profit...

"Experts say the measure would lead to more red tape and government bureaucracy. Why? The ballot issue contains no language guiding implementation, and the issues sponsors slipped in an unprecedented provision giving them a blank check to interveneat taxpayer expensein any legal challenges that may arise if the issue becomes law."
Read the Bill...it sucks Sen. Sander should read it more carefully.

(30,481 posts)about Issue 2.
I'm surprised at the Senator. Like I said, and it's well known around here, I'm not a fan. I still know he and I almost always side the same on ballot initiatives.
The opposition they list at your second link is very interesting. A broad swath of political ideologies seem to be opposing this issue.
Demsrule86
(68,696 posts)is shady in my view. And it is a badly written bill sure to cause massive litigation and ohio taxpayer have to pay for it...no method of implementation either...and it is not known how much the VA pays in many cases. I see this bill denying medicine to folks and driving up the price for others as the pharmaceuticals make up the money lost on people not covered by this bill. I do wish Sen. Sanders would stay out of this or perhaps study it more carefully.

Demsrule86
(68,696 posts)not national...also there is no implementation and the Bill guy wrote in the we the tax payers have to pay for all litigation which will be substantial...bad bill badly written...and this bill drives up the prices on others who will not be able to afford their medicine.

(11,936 posts)Pharmacies are not going to pull the drugs. They won't make ANY money if they don't continue to sell them. They are still selling them to people who use VA at those prices.
This is the same bullshit that right wingers convey when they say that raising taxes will cause the rich to provide less jobs.
Demsrule86
(68,696 posts)will merely raise the price of those not covered by this bill which is most of Ohio...we will see huge increases.

(68,696 posts)Next...this covers only the Ohio government buying the drugs (Medicaid/ACA)...no one else gets lower prices but Pharma can charge higher prices for them in order to make up for any shortfall...the is no implementation and we have to pay legal expenses for litigation (taxpayers)...which there will be plenty of...I know a great deal about this bill. What do you know about it? I am sure Ohio or big Pharma won't mind at all if poorer folks on the Medicare expansion can't get life saving drugs...or people with private/work place insurance can't afford drugs whose prices have been raised tremendously. It is a bad deal and I will vote no on it. We need something that will work not this mess.

(11,936 posts)So is this VA spokesperson lying or are you just wrong?

(68,696 posts)aids foundation and uses said foundations to buy drugs and resell them at higher prices.
"The opposition campaign, Ohioans Against the Deceptive Rx Ballot Issue, lists more than 80 organizations that are partnering to defeat the measure. They include veterans groups, mental health agencies, the Ohio State Medical Association, Ohio Pharmacists Association and the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.
All of the funding for the opposition campaign comes from major drug manufacturers through the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA, a drug industry trade group.
PhRMA has donated more than $15 million to the No campaign.
The opposition message is that the ballot issue will raise rather than lower drug prices, including for veterans, while reducing patient access to needed medicines. They also say the measure would be nearly impossible to implement and will lead to lawsuits and bureaucratic red tape.
The group also argues that this initiative leaves out the seven million Ohioans, 64 percent of the state, who get private insurance and, according to the group, could see their prices go up."
Pharma is against it mostly because there is no implementation and it will cost the tax payers who have to pay legal bills for this mess...for any litigation. It is a bad bill and there is no way to even know how much the VA pays.

I have done my research and made my decision.
Yes on 2.
Demsrule86
(68,696 posts)and will cost Ohioan big when we pay for the litigation resulting from this ill thought out attempt to lower prices on drugs. We do need to lower drug cost, but this bill won't do it.

(68,696 posts)when a writer of a bill requires a state to assume all cost associated with litigation...that indicates the bill should not be passed...and we don't even know what the VA pays...

I read all sides and made my choice because regardless of intentions ...this bill won't lower costs and is badly written period. We can and should do better.

Opposition to Issue 2 has spent $60 million on advertising, waaaay outspending proponents.
Where did all that money came from? I know it DIDN'T come from altruistic groups looking out for our best interests. The thought of that is laughable.
So Issue 2 will no doubt go down in flames and the gazillionaires will pat themselves on the back for the continued revenue stream and voters will thank God they saved themselves from the boogie man.
PS One bright spot, after I schooled my landlord on the no-negotiation rule that Issue 2 was trying to overturn, the man who spent a career selling cars actually changed his vote to YES and told everyone he knows that the millionaires are trying to hoodwink us again. lol
