(18,837 posts)I watched a little bit of CNN today and it was all about it being a referendum on Trump, but Democrats shouldn't get too excited.
It was non-stop buzzkill.
It was "Yes, they had some major wins, BUT..."
And everyone is saying that Trump will be on top when the tax cuts are passed, and Republicans will be loved and will win yugely.
If the shoe were on the other foot, the reporting would be "The Republicans are BACK, and in a BIG WAY!"

(17,019 posts)I keep looking for that massive liberal media I keep hearing about but... nada.

(33,035 posts)Many of the shows couldn't deal with the idea of it being a win for Democrats. Here&Now, thank the lord, didn't have that silly Paris Dennard on at least.
Yeah I know NPR = Nice Polite Republicans

(33,035 posts)in 72 or 73 on the way home from school. Oh how they have slid & slipped.
Discovered NPR back when I was just a youngster in the early '70's. I hate how they've changed.

(19,204 posts)to take all of their money away. I guess that's a reason to make a right turn, but not a good one. Since 2002 CONservatives have been complaining about PBS and it's "Liberal" bias. Yes, the facts DO have a definite Liberal bias. Now, with the Trumptards in control, I'm sure they'll try to gut it again. That's why winning these elections is so important. The Senate controls the PBS purse strings, and if Trump finds this out (shhhhhhhhhhh....) he'll try to turn it into a pay-radio CONservative broadcaster.
If you never knew this, Republicans are scum. Just a tip from your old Uncle Serge.

(15,555 posts)I've known it for a very long time. They want to control the narrative on everything and they know there are enough gullible/uninformed people out there who will suck up their rhetoric without needing facts to substantiate it.
Hard not to get cynical when you've lived a long time

(19,204 posts)I'll hit 70 soon, and with each passing of another year I have to check my cynicism more and more. I have to keep reminding myself that the world is still a beautiful place, and that there are more good people than bad. It's just that the good people aren't getting the attention they deserve, and the ass-clowns get much more than they've ever earned.

(15,555 posts)I'm a little over a year from 70 myself. Sometimes when I reflect on my life I am amazed at how much living I've done - how much I've experienced both good and bad, and the good definitely outweighs the bad. Guess that's all one can hope for.
When it comes to the state of our country, I don't worry that much because there's not a whole lot other than what I have always done to try to vote my ethics, principles and morals. I'm not as tolerant of the assholes as I used to be
I step away from DU every now and then because the news can be toxic these days. It's the shootings that bother me the most. I can't wrap my head around why we tolerate it. Used to be we'd tsk tsk all the unrest and killings in Israel/Palestine/Middle East, but now other countries are shaking their heads at what we've become.

(19,204 posts)I have to take breaks from DU as well. I found DU after the great George W. Bush/Al Gore election debacle. The most current break lasted 7 years. That was after the 2008 primaries. You think Clinton/Sanders was bad? HA! Clinton/Obama was even worse. It spelled the demise of many a DUer. Things were pretty much on cruise control with Obama, so I stayed away. Then......................Donald Trump reared his ugly head. And the rest, as they say, is history. I never thought after Bush/Gore that anything could be so screwed up in American politics again. It just goes to show 'ya, never count your chickens.

(19,879 posts)evil orange one in the White House. All they did was question could it be sustained in this Trumpian world. Give the Democratic party props for getting it done last night and move on.

Also, there were many great wins yesterday for Democrats.

(37,648 posts)Of course they're factual in reporting results. The news guys aren't supposed to be rooting for one side or the other, just reporting. But they noted the broad based unexpected wins across the board as a Democratic night.
Morning Joe the next morning certainly did, noting that the Dems got out the vote, women stood in line in the rain to vote.
I don't get CNN, but I read it online, and it was reporting the night similarly to MSNBC. Dem wins broad based, unexpected wins, wins here, wins there, and such. All the reporters I saw on both MSNBC & CNN were excited because it was an exciting night.
I think it was CNN that used the term blue wave across the East Coast.
