our nuclear family opened on Christmas Eve (when little right after the children's Mass) and when older right before the Midnight Mass. We opened with other family on Christmas Day and then with Friends, associates and others on December 26

we were allowed to choose one gift to open on Christmas eve. Everything else waited till morning. It was a good compromise.

As a third generation atheist I do too. Mary gets knocked up and son grows up to be a king. We did all sorts of Christmas. When my son was about 5 I asked him if he knew who Jesus was (we were on our way to a religious relatives house for Christmas eve) and he said, "he was the guy who died so Santa could bring me presents."

We're not big fans of Noah's arc (he killed all the babies!) or Easter.

When I was still living with my parents and I was single, we opened presents on Christmas eve, which is the usual date in Germany ("Heiligabend" => holy eve).
Then I started to visit my boyfriend's family on Christmas eve and we open presents there, and visit my own parents on Christmas day to open even more presents.

In Germany we also have a second Christmas day (literally "2. Weihnachtsfeiertag" ) on December 26, and we meet my extended family (uncles, aunts, grandmoms, cousins) at my grandmother's house on that date.

My boyfriend and I, the eventual-parents-in-law, my parents, and my grandmother all live 100-200km (60-100 miles) apart from each other, so Christmas is a major travel time for me.

Anyway, looking forward to the war on Christmas this year.

All the other soldiers opened gifts as they received them. I waited until Christmas Day. There were literally 5 people who came into my room to watch me open my gifts.
