Don't rehome pets on Craiglist or anywhere but a reputable rescue or no-kill shelter.... and we need to understand that cruelty to animals needs to be recognized and dealt with as the dangerous pathology it is.
Devin Kelley, 26, reportedly purchased the animals via Craigslist with the sole intention of killing them, a former U.S. Air Force colleague told CNN. Jessika Edwards, who served at the Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico from 2010-12 with Kelley, told the news station the mass shooter was "...using the dogs as target practice."
The former colleague acknowledged she never vetted the veracity of Kelley's claims, but said he told her of his actions via Facebook messages three years ago after reconnecting in civilian life. She told CNN the admission prompted her to end the friendship.

Edwards said she tried to warn superiors of his dark worldview. When Kelly was disciplined for poor performance, she warned her bosses to "...back off, or he would shoot the place up," she told the news station. Edwards has since been interviewed by the FBI investigating his crimes.
"He was always getting into trouble," Edwards said. "It was problem after problem."

(16,829 posts)and I have no doubt he got a very good home.
I found him on Craigslist - he was rescued by a woman who was placing a dog a week from a high kill shelter. After 6 weeks I realized that he had come from family with kids and he was longing for them. When I put him on Craigslist I had 10 inquiries so I could be choosy. He got a 2 parent home with 2 children and another labrador retriever.
Its not that there's anything wrong with Craigslist in itself - you just have to put some time and effort into what you do.

(32,640 posts)Animal cruelty history is not part of many law enforcement databases.
The animal rescue that I work with has a spreadsheet shared among many rescues that lists known animal abusers. That way when someone wants to adopt, we have at least some list to check them against.
This list would include hoarders, those who had been reported by neighbors to have been abusive or neglectful of animals.
