Witness tampering?!: Trump's choice of a grossly unqualified lawyer for a lifetime

federal judgeship appointment might actually be witness tampering. He has a pattern, noted by Seth Abramson on Twitter, of offering cushy and powerful jobs to people who are on Mueller's radar as witnesses. This guy's wife is a key witness in Mueller's investigation.

What’s more–and not disclosed until this morning–is Talley’s ongoing marriage to Ann Donaldson, chief of staff for White House counsel, Donald F. McGahn II. Donaldson is said to be a key witness in special counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation into whether Trump personally obstructed justice.

According to a report in the New York Times, Donaldson was recently interviewed by Mueller’s investigators as to her “detailed notes” regarding certain conversations with McGahn about the firing of former FBI Director James Comey–as well as other related issues.

In response to those revelations regarding: (1) Donaldson’s discussions with McGahn; (2) the investigation into Donaldson’s notes on those discussions–which make Donaldson a potential Mueller witness; and (3) the administration’s apparent attempts to keep Donaldson’s marriage to Talley under wraps, (former WH lawyer Norm) Eisen tweeted the following just a few hours ago [caps in the original]:

this [sic] is not just nepotism, but also potential CONFLICT OF INTEREST &/or WITNESS TAMPERING: a Trump reward to the unqualified family member of a witness in the Mueller investigation. No wonder they tried to hide the relationship. This should be reviewed by the Special Counsel.

Damn. Mueller's going to need to hire some more people. Can't wait until Trump arrives back in town. This is going to get interesting. My guess is that Mueller is on top of things. Between this and the Wikileaks connections confirmed, it looks like it's time for Trump to fire Mueller. This ought to be an interesting rest of the week. Bring popcorn.

details Trump's pattern of offering great jobs to people who come under Mueller's investigative microscope as witnesses and players in real legal jeopardy, as a way to persuade them not to damage Trump in their testimony. He even offered Papadopoulos a "blank check" to choose *any* job he wanted in the administration, and then Papadopoulos lied to the FBI, out of loyalty to Trump (as Papadopoulos later admitted), which are the lies he has been indicted for. Abramson provides other examples of such suspicious job offers.

He does really good independent reporting, too.

For example, he recently did a tweet string about Papadopoulos's secret trip to Athens at a time when Putin also made an unusual one-off trip to Athens, where both had meetings with someone who acts as a Putin agent.

He also did a string about how Hope Hicks has been receiving by email, from several people being scrutinized now by Mueller, information about proposed Russian meetings and such, not because *she* needs to know those things, but because she will give Trump printouts of the emails, but they can still maintain plausible deniability (they *think*), and Trump can claim he never, ever saw such information about any meetings with Russian agents.
