They get to vote for Pedo Moore and their preachers get to look moral with their statements.

He wouldn't comment on the case itself other than that -- a family had went to a mandated reporter for help, and that person, ordained by the SBC, had failed to report.

He discussed the need for churches to develop policies and procedures and training for everyone in youth work to know that even if they aren't ordained, churches are a safety net to help protect children and they must report anything to their superiors and if mandated reporters report according to state law even if that means not speaking with a higher up first -- the.entire point of certain employees being mandated is they are considered capable of making the report themselves if the law requires immediate reporting.

He also did address that churches didn't have the ability to wield the "sword of justice" that the Bible itself says the civil authorities have, and that same passage tells the innocent faithful not to fear such a sword. That the most a church can do is excommunication, which doesn't protect other children at the next church.

He's a good egg.

I attend an SBC Church but gave up on the SBC leadership years ago. Maybe some day. Until then, I will comfort myself (as best I can) that mine is an at least relatively progressive congregation.
