Authorities say the wife of a gunman who went on a shooting rampage in a Northern California town was found dead inside their home.
Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston says investigators found the body of Kevin Janson Neal's wife hidden under the floor. Investigators believe the killing of his wife was the start of the rampage.
Authorities say Neal shot and killed four other people and wounded 10 others at different locations around the rural community of Rancho Tehama Reserve. Police later shot and killed him.

The gunman behind a rampage in Northern California was out on bail after being charged with stabbing a neighbor and had been the subject of a domestic violence call the day before.
Neighbors also said they repeatedly reported to police that he had been firing off hundreds of rounds of ammunition day and night.

RANCHO TEHAMA RESERVE, Calif. - A former Tehama County Sheriffs deputy said he wasnt surprised about the series of deadly shootings in the rural Northern California community of Rancho Tehama Reserve Tuesday.
Kyle Pflager, who worked for the sheriffs office for three years and now runs a Facebook page that monitors police scanner traffic, said a mix of gun-toting former felons, large-scale marijuana grows and frequent disturbances often stemming from the illegal operations, are a dangerous mix.
Pflager claims there are 50 to 100 marijuana grows within a mile of Rancho Tehama Elementary School, where two children are among the 10 wounded.
He said deputies are routinely called for disturbances in the community of 1,500, and more often than not its with marijuana growers.
Theres a lots of violence out there, he said. The people out there know how to grow marijuana and they do it very well. But theres also a lot of disturbances between people and there is usually a weapon involved. There are a ton of guns out there in the hands of the wrong people.
The telltale signs of pot grows are clear, he said.

(13,485 posts)If a pot grower is far right, a gun nut, afraid of government and the left then it adds up. I'm curious about the sheriff's position. I have a sibling who is a community official in Tehema co. and would definitely know the neighborhood. I'm going to ask what s/he knows. It's an important subject.
Thanks for the info.

(3,569 posts)I live in a county with a pot economy. I hear people shooting, big guns, almost daily. That it is harvest probably had more than a little to do with it. Lot of sketchballs in that industry. Lot of worries too. Prices, rip offs, and all the other stuff that goes into farming.

(7,820 posts)Killed the wife, killed the neighbors (unclear if it's the same neighbor that had him arrested for stabbing them, but it probably was), gets out on bail, goes on a rampage. It's classic. There are hundreds and hundreds of reports like this. Though the kill count is usually immediate family members.

(38,337 posts)I'm pretty sure I have a great grandma or two who dealt with bad guys like this the old fashioned Wild West way, same way they dealt with rabid dogs and rattlesnakes. At least one had a sheriff-coroner friend to clean up the mess and file the proper paperwork.
Oh yeah, this is the twenty first century.
Fuck all the gun fetishists who make these mass murders possible. Fuck everyone, especially law enforcement, who is too timid to separate a "man" from his guns. (Probably because they have their own deep insecurities that someone might separate them from their guns...)
Fuck the second amendment as it is now interpreted too.
A "militia?"
My shiny ass.
Guns are here to stay.
Fo-re-ver.
It's all about selling more guns to a decreasing population of gun fetishists.

(2,337 posts)I remember being younger and attitudes towards 2nd amendment rights and exercise in this country. Gun ownership wasn't nearly as common and favorable then as it is now, and I see zero sign of it changing. In 20 years, it's done a 180.

(38,337 posts)... but gun forums are just creepy. Gun fetishes should not be normalized.
I have some understanding of utilitarian gun uses, for example hunting. I've hunted, I have family who hunt, although I myself don't care for it.
"Self defense" isn't a good reason to own a gun. Sorry.
I don't let anyone I'd care to shoot live in my head. I've never been in a situation where me holding a gun would have improved outcomes. It's not that I have no gun skills, it's not that I don't get coldly rational in difficult situations. Once the guns come out, everything is fubar. I've seen people shot. I've painted over blood stains in cheap apatments with KILZ.
Why do you care about guns? What does the bad guy living in your head look like?
The second amendment as it is now interpreted is an ugly thing, just as slavery was. It was written and it has been interpreted by fallible men.
I posted in another thread that I'd be happy to see any guns capable of more than two quick shots outlawed, including your favorite antique revolver.
My parents killed all the guns they inherited. A few may have been "collectible," but fuck it, that's a sick hobby. Bad money, bad karma.
My brother has my grandfather's deer rifle. Our grandma gave it to him. He doesn't hunt, it's decoration. His kids will probably destroy it someday; they never knew that wild west, never knew the poverty where you killed the meat on your table yourself, haven't been hunting. If I decide one day my brother is a fool, I will destroy my grandfather's deer rifle. My mom took my grandma's guns when my grandma became an obvious danger to herself and others, years after she gave my brother the rifle.
My great grandmothers were wild west. Totally bad ass. They had zero tolerance for fools with guns, especially men. The family traditions are matriarchal.
I kill guns. A Harbor Freight angle grinder makes quick work of it. A cheap-ass angle grinder is a work of art. Guns, not so much. Fuck'm.
Gun fetishists live in a shrinking bubble and the gun manufacturers egg them on, stoking their fears, appealing to their immaturity with increasingly dangerous toys.

(2,337 posts)In the real world, I can name at least ten people who asked me about getting a gun (then did) in the last few years (4 or 5). I don't know any who've given any up. The base of gun ownership grows every day. For the record, when polled, I will always state emphatically, "I own no guns".

(38,337 posts)Gun fetishes are disgusting.
Short enough for you?
If only that fervor could be channeled into something other than impotent rage, I'd be seriously concerned for my rights.

(38,337 posts)Thirty and forty year olds "courting" thirteen year olds with the permission of their mothers wasn't considered creepy by some people.

Yes, do be concerned about your "rights." You live in a shrinking bubble, a bubble where gun fetishes are normalized.

(2,337 posts)your concerns with civil liberties don't extend past forum lip-service.
Screwing teens and owning slaves aren't and weren't ever constitutionally enumerated and protected rights. The second amendment is. History, the courts, and the will of the American people aren't on your side. If you truly think I'm in a bubble, you need a mirror. More folks than ever own guns, and are choosing to say "No, NONE of my constitutionally protected rights are up for grabs." People have seen the way our country is headed in terms of restricting speech, voting, free association, the press, and they've said "Nope. Fuck you to death, buddy!" At the end of the day, the 2nd and the inherent right to effective self defense are civil rights. Stand against it if you choose, but know you stand against civil rights in the end.
hunter
(38,337 posts)It used to be my "right" to own slaves. We are well rid of that "right."
If anyone owns a gun for other than utilitarian reasons (hunting would be one) I believe they are living in a sick fantasy world.
It's a bizarre belief that guns have anything to do with civil rights.
Once the guns come out, everything is fubar; look at all the places in the world where people are "defending their rights" with guns. Civil war is ugly.
The sort of guy who would vote Republican because some random guy on the internet is disgusted by gun fetishes is not a Democrat.
Piss on the second amendment. It belongs in the dustbins of history. I don't need any stinking guns to defend my civil rights. Guns are in fact a threat to my civil rights.
