Ominous signs that the next war in the Middle East is coming, and it won't be pretty

There are several factors to consider. First, in September, IDF's Northern Command conducted its largest military exercise in 20 years, involving tens of thousands of troops, tanks, aircraft and even the navy. Such planning takes an incredibly large amount of time and the manoeuvres themselves are extraordinarily costly.

The imagined enemy was Hezbollah. Israel has also attacked Syrian positions several times in recent months, partly to remind Damascus who is the boss of the block, but also to test how they will respond. Syria has always regarded Lebanon as a virtual province and Israel is determined to teach it — and Hezbollah — a lesson, and to reassert its authority.

........

Second, the Sunni superpower of Saudi Arabia is in an increasingly hot war with the Shia world and in particular, Iran. Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman is heir to the throne and while young, he is the effective ruler of the country. He's economically progressive, internationally connected and determined to modernize the country and also have it throw its weight around.

The civil war in Yemen, for example, is now almost three years old and had led to the deaths of at least 5,000 civilians, many of them children. Saudi Arabia backs the government, in particular with its air force, while Iran supports the Houthi rebels.

Didn't 45 say that it would be easy to solve problems in the middle east, that he'd get it done right away?

4. A nuclear Iran

Maybe Clustertrump can undo the global deal to keep Iran nuclear free. It was done by Obama so he must destroy it. Nuclear War in the Middle East is a small price to pay for revenge against Obama. Who knows, maybe the orange asshole's revenge can even bring the rapture. Christian Right rejoice! Voting for Trump may hasten the end of the world! Nuclear war is quicker than merely destroying the environment.

whining that the Iranians got money from the US. That money was from the Shaw who stashed it there before the revolution in Iran. Saint Ronnie didn't fork it over to the Pahlavis when he could because all us governments recognized it belonged to the people of Iran.

The Sunni and Shia are dumb tribalists. No amount of negotiations mediated by anyone from the outside will resolve it. Let them exterminate each other. It's what they want. What they've wanted for a thousand years.

10. Only after many bloody wars and attempted genocides

Maybe that's what needs to happen here. We've tried getting between the two groups for so long, at great expense to ourselves in blood and treasure. So they can blame us for it instead of taking responsibility and moving forward. Or killing each other off. Either way, nothing the West does will resolve it. No amount of troops or peace summits will end the stupid tribal rivalries.

The Middle East is like a tire fire. We can't put it out. Our attempts to do so make it exponentially worse. Time just grab a beer and watch it burn.

11. Trump is doing away with regulations or bans on countries and governments

that are corrupt. That alone will send 200,000,000 into the arms of radical islamic fundamentalists of one kind or another. That is what happens when there is no meritocracy. People search for another kind of life on earth if working hard garners them nothing. Some of those 200 million will cross the line and go to war. Trump could do a lot by tearing up his pro corruption edicts. But why would he. Corruption ensures the rich stay rich. Just saying... there are other ways.
