CREDO Action: Al Franken should immediately resign from the U.S. Senate

I'm posting this as news, I'm NOT advocating -- Don

Sen. Al Franken had the chance last week to take full responsibility for past sexual harassment, sexual assault and any other behavior that demeaned women. He failed to do so. CREDO is committed to standing with women who speak out, holding perpetrators accountable and working to change the systemic and institutionalized misogyny that lets these behaviors continue without consequence. We believe that Sen. Franken should immediately resign from the U.S. Senate and that Gov. Mark Dayton should appoint a progressive woman to replace him.

What is CREDO?

CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of 5 million activists, sending tens of millions of petition signatures and more than 100,000 phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct actions for progressive change.

And donate for progressive causes. $150,000 per month, so they say. ... but I've often thought they use progressive causes as a niche market to sell cell phones and services. Their ratings on Yelp are mixed, like with most cell phone companies.

I'm disappointed in Credo for going all in at this point. The offenses we know about are minor and not deserving of losing his seat. I believe this whole thing of equating an unwanted kiss with sexual molestation is a great way to start a new political backlash against us.

2, 6, 20? Where does one draw the line? This second woman coming forward is disappointing, but she need to be heard. If a third comes forward with an account of unwanted touching, we are cutting off an arm if we continue to believe Franken with his vague memory on not touching women. We can't be taking two sides on this, when Roy Moore supporters demanded "more" evidence, we were rightfully angry about them not giving the accusers a fair hearing.

Here's one:

“Why don't they give us "minus" stars for our reviews?”
1/3/15

Why don't they give us "minus" stars for our reviews?

When I started getting petitions to sign that seemed equivocal, I got a little pickier about what I signed from CREDO. One I got today about L'Oreal convinced me that CREDO is not a social action site at all--they are a paid service for political and sales organizations.

I absolutely agree with the rater above--CREDO is a bunch of pandering profiteers, who will take attention away from the larger issues in order to sell you on a lie with their blathering about minutiae.

If you start signing the $#*! they send you, you will eventually embarrass yourself, as I have.

It sounds like they're inclined to jump on bandwagons.

Their "member" numbers are meaningless as they're not a democratic organization.

If it was me, I'd delete this OP on the basis that this isn't really newsworthy or reflective of anyone's opinion other than whoever runs CREDO action.

Snopes includes them in their "Inboxer Rebellion" archive:

Every day we’re bombarded with e-mail of dubious origin and even more dubious veracity: messages that plead with us to find a missing kid or help a sick child, sign a petition to right some terrible injustice, take a stand on an important piece of pending legislation, forward a message to claim free merchandise, or take heed of the latest computer virus. The messages that aren’t outright hoaxes are often full of misinformation, and even the ones that have some truth to them are usually out-of-date by the time we receive them.

This is the place where the inboxer rebellion begins! The categories below should help you locate and identify whether that piece of e-mail you’ve received is a hoax, the truth, or something in between.

https://www.snopes.com/category/facts/inboxer-rebellion/

I haven't been able to find the email for which they warranted inclusion on that page, but it's in there somewhere.

He has two allegations against him at this point. One comes across more as a really poor attempt at humor than the actions of a serial pervert and we have no idea whether the other accusation has any merit to it or not.

What I'm saying is that maybe, just maybe, we should wait until more information comes out before publicly lynching a great senator.

I do not believe the second allegation.

Al is a very smart guy, even if he was inclined to grab women's butts (and I've never heard any rumors that he is that kind of guy) he's not dumb enough to do it in front of a crowd at the State Fair and risk being decked by the woman or her husband who was taking the picture.

And I certainly don't think Al should resign.

The state fair? With tons of people, cameras, all the local tv stations...that's where he is gonna grab a woman's ass in front of her husband.

And I'm sick of being called a hypocrite because I would apply the same incredulity if you told me it was my Rep Paulson (whom I loathe).

I am a survivor of sexual assault from when I was a child to adulthood (different instances) and it's starting to really piss me off that we are supposed to believe ALL women and criticized for asking questions. Some things have a ring of truth to them, fit a pattern of predatory behavior. Other things make you want more info, ask for context or can be an accident or whatever. And sometimes people ... even women...lie. Not often, not always, but it has happened.

Both genders are capable of lying, of misinterpreting events, of crossing boundaries without malicious intent, of miscommunication and of poor attempts at humor. She may very well have felt gross because she didn't like how the interaction went...maybe his hand was lower than she liked...but I seriously doubt it was a full on ass grab.

And even if it were true, it still doesn't come near as offensive as the behavior of Trump and Moore. It's not a reason to resign...self reflection, apologies and a change in behavior yes, resignation no.

It's pissing me off too. She claims he grabbed her butt in public right before a picture and in front of her husband.... It could have happened, it may not have happened, or his hand might have brushed her butt on accident.

And yes, I seriously doubt the first accuser's account of what happened based on everything that has come out since she first went public, plus the pic doesn't look like he is even touching her flack jacket. The second one claiming he touched her butt.... my lord.... This is what is throwing Senator Franken into the same group as Roy Moore, Weinstein, Trump et al? Just no.

Though I think it's clear from the OP that it isn't. Credo is a strange beast however and I never trusted it, or the other beasts like it. (There's a credit card that has the same function, where every transaction pays a penny to a good deed or cause, but the problem is you have no control over the causes and who's to say your fellow Visa creditors share your politics?)
