The next Alt-R: Child molestation, pedophilia whatever we are calling Roy Moores allegations

Of all of the insane Roy Moore defenses, perhaps none is more shocking than the core rationale that Republicans support, sanction, and justify this man’s actions in lieu of losing a senate seat or worse “voting for a Democrat.” It is a disgusting display of tribalism at any cost. Something that I fear, in a not too distant way, parallels the rise of the Alt-Right’s own “out of the closet” racism that I would have found to be impossible to believe a few short years ago.

We have all seen the statistics proving that hate crime has been rising steadily in the era of Trump. Rallies under the guise of free speech; torches and anti-semitic, racist chants by hordes of NAZIS marching in the streets of America; spokespersons receiving full and equal airtime on the evening news, etc. But what other horrible, ugly things lurk in our society? What else can be emboldened due to lack of consequence or fear of being ostracized by faith, family or community? Things we think impossible to comprehend as acceptable? Ideas, beliefs, and dare I say fads of outrageous behavior that people in the shadows latch onto and then proudly step into the light carrying proudly on their shoulders.

We have seen our media organizations publicize, perhaps without realizing it, and glorify, again perhaps innocently, arguments for what most consider taboo: adult/child relations. F’ing biblical excuses and discussions of “legal consent,” that are beyond abhorrent in this context ( consent never seems to be in the context of two teenagers both 17 or 18 engaging in the most natural thing in the world). All get airtime. Often outrageous opinions get more.

The *45 pResident is a clear and present danger to the world, he and his family have committed treason against this country. They have laundered money, lied, been caught lying, literally conned other Americans, the list would take me all night to roll out. And part of tomorrow. Yet, his believers seem to not take notice or care. In fact, they love him the more for it, because he is their guy.

I have never been so confused as to what it means to be an American and what the values(and I am almost afraid to use that word here) of this country and it’s freedoms are.

Have we lost all sense of decency?

This brings me to my point. I worry that we have. I worry that what was once considered to be completely and totally out of bounds can now just slap a Republican label on it and the people who consider themselves a part of Republicanism, whatever that is now, will just go right along with it. Fight for it regardless of right or wrong - all in the name of tribe R. Every shred of common decency is being flayed before our eyes. As long as it can skirt within the boundaries of some biblical text, it will just go into our society as just another point of view.

*on edit: I just needed to vent.
