De Blasio joins Gillibrand in sticking his foot in his mouth.

De Blasio says he agrees with Gillibrand that Clinton should have resigned

By GLORIA PAZMINO 11/20/2017 07:21 PM EST

Mayor Bill de Blasio followed Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s lead on Monday, agreeing that former President Bill Clinton should have resigned the presidency during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

“I don’t think you can rework history. I think if it happened today — if any president did that today — they would have to resign,” de Blasio told reporters during an unrelated press conference in Queens.

She made a rational, nuanced statement. If Bill Clinton did what he did today, he likely would be forced to resign by Democrats because we are far, far more ethical than republicans ever can be.

very hard on him. Republicans would demand a public execution. But only after they squeezed every last fund raising cent out of it.

That's today, though. She said he should have resigned then which is a utter BS. He was punished at the time and made an example of.

Things seem to finally be changing. Unless we blow it by getting rid of our leaders at the drop of an accusation. Democrats need to be smart about this and get the facts before we react. Republicans are out to get us. They will never make the same demands of their own.

And she is right. Look, I was 100% behind Clinton as President, but if he was running today and did that stuff, there is no way that I could back him over another Democrat. His issue is why I warn strongly against us embracing a guy like Gavin Newsome, who has been known to have issues with keeping his zipper closed.

Bill's behavior was straight out of Disasterville and there would be no sustaining him in the present.

But this is about more than that. That's two NY Democrats effectively saying it's finally time to move on from the Clintons. And they're both right.

There was a strong reason for Clinton not to resign the Presidency in 1998-he had been set up to perjure himself by the Republican party. Who would want to give in to those piss ants? The self righteous goons who tumbled one by one in the wake of the impeachment. Clinton could have had an aw shucks moment but he didn't, he remained strong and finished out his job. When Democrats bow and scrape to appear like the party that always does the right thing they look weak, because often they've been conned. Politics isn't clean and neither is life.
