Using your job as a guise to gain dates * from your subordinates is a really bad idea.

Using your job as a guise to get dates from your subordinates is a really bad idea. I'm really disappointed in Charlie Rose. He always struck me as a courtly southern gentleman. It just shows looks can be deceiving.

* I'm grappling for a word that allows you to fit your title into the limited characters available. You shouldn't use your position to gain intimacy or sexual favors you would otherwise not get.

If they became involved, someone had to get a new job or transfer. within the company usually.

But are they considered co-workers (in which case it's o'key to date in most workplaces) or is he considered her boss?

So clearly at first he was the senior partner and he asked her to co-host. Maybe by the time they became involved she was more or less his peer. Considering the downside of breaking up the show, NBC probably decided the risks were worth it. If they break up and a mess ensues, the show will be over anyway.

She's the fool for trying to work for her boyfriend. What could possibly go wrong?

9. I did wonder about that. Maybe the fact that they were co-hosts and neither was the boss?

But then Joe donated to the GOP and was fine...while my favorite host of all time Keith Olbermann was fired for this. He has friends in high places.

It's about power. In some professions votes in committees are very important and if you have your 'crew', your position could prevail. I used to bring up this subject with graduate students and young faculty with regularity. We all know or knew the creeps in our institutions/offices.

10. STEM departments have a big problem with many faculty, post-docs and students from abroad

At one major university that an acquaintance went to, there seemed to be no program to introduce our cultural values to junior faculty and post-docs from abroad and the environment for female graduate student in the research labs was highly toxic.

Faculty and senior researchers have a great deal more power over graduate students than a manager and employee in a major corporation. And there were essentially none of the EEOC programs that major corporations employ to reduce harassment.

Its a terrible time to use euphemisms. These were assaults and exhibitionist behavior. To say otherwise takes away from the gravity of the situation.

I was once in a situation where I was the middle manager between my boss who was dating my junior staffer. I never once brought up the relationship to either of them (but I was informed by my predecessor) but it was an awkward situation all around. It changed the way I managed the junior staffer because everything out of my mouth would go directly to my boss.
