(24,324 posts)I used to be a timpanist.
here is a performance of the Sibelius Symphony, the great Paavo Järvi conducting.
I doubt you will ever hear better.
This is what I did for many years, kick ass playing---although this is not me but a friend, , former timpanist in the Orchestre De Paris. He lays it down as it should be done... (I will say, he can be a little dramatic at times. LOL))
The fun, and build up to the end, starts at about 36:12.
If this doesn't blast you out of your chair you are comatose !!

(3,191 posts)Paavo with his Don Quixote windmilling, the horns, the gorgeous red oboes, the timpanist, the violinists in a nectar frenzy....BRAVO and thank you for sharing that bit of wonderful beauty with me. My daughter (she's 16) and I wept.

(37,161 posts)He's spent his entire career paving the path to Trump, and if Kremlin Don was even remotely capable of the appearance of presidential behavior he'd have gotten right in line behind him. In fact he did, when it looked like that was the way to jump.
The man known as "Dan Quayle's brain", who convinced McCain to bring aboard Sarah Palin, who ran a conservative rag that helped build their bubble cannot and should not be allowed to pretend he wasn't involved in bringing about the current mess.
I don't think he needs to spend the rest of his life flagellating himself about it, but doing so for a good 10 years would show he actually has a conscience about what his smarmy arrogance and ivy-league political vandalism has done.

(37,161 posts)Conservatives of Kristol's ilk have aided, abetted, and encouraged the racists and other sTrumpets in their drive to break up the Democratic coalition and any other organized opposition. On their own they don't have the numbers to push their pet policies, but buoyed on a sea of foam? That's the basis of their power.
Except the people he spent his career working into a lather think he's a slacker and backslider, an apostate, and he's been cast out into... well, well-paid media gigs aren't exactly the wilderness, are they?
Don't let him disown the Don.

(3,417 posts)I very much enjoy hearing real debate about the merits of public policy. George Will, David Brooks, and Bill Kristol are capable of making persuasive arguments to defend their positions. Liberals ignore and dismiss their views at their own peril.
It is hubris to believe that progressive policies can not spawn un-intended consequences. If a conservative challenges my thinking based on real evidence and facts, I had better listen. Fair and respectful differences concerning strategies to solve big problems should be discussed without filters. Better solutions will be the product of such debate.

(65,076 posts)All three you mention are 2 dimensional thinkers with 2 dimensional positions and have bee probably wrong about everything they've espoused for 20+ years!
Peddle your conservabot claptrap elsewhere!
Those three couldn't begin to understand the econometric models I published and those were nearly 25 years ago
Ignore them at our peril? Speak for yourself! The only thing that crowd is, is ignorable!
They are to blame for the present! No quarter for those idiots!
Shame on you for bringing that nonsense here!

(1,325 posts)Likening these guys with any connection to merit or being capable of conducting themselves in a real debate is pure horseshit. Been watching these buttholes ruin the political dialogue in this nation for decades. They all admire wealth and power, couldn't care less about the working class and love it when we start bombing the hell out of poor people in far away lands. Each one of these guys is a first rate ass-kisser for anything related to wall street, free market mythology, and project for a new American century crap.
Kristol can choke on a dried turd for all I care.

(81,320 posts)But I'd need to see a longer track record of behavior that proves this. Not ready to trust or fully embrace these three. Bill Kristol, David Brooks, and George Will have spent an awfully long time being knuckledraggers. Someone like David Brock, on the other hand, is an example of genuine repentance and making amends. He's a former wrong-winger whose eyes were opened to the extent that he not only cast off his old beliefs and his former proselytizing but he founded Media Matters for America - which has become a weaponized resource for TRUTH and debunking the REAL fake news.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Brock
HIM I can believe. The others have to show, over time and many writings, speeches, and public appearances, that they've honestly an genuinely reformed. I await becoming convinced that they're not just shameless opportunists bending with whatever wind they see as most advantageous. And yeah, Bill Kristol has the stain of Sarah Palin on his soul. Gonna take some time and effort to repent that one.
I guess it's the Catholic school effect - wherein we were taught, among other things, that salvation is all about faith AND good works. You have to put ACTION behind your lofty-sounding words. Because talk is cheap. As Rachel Maddow frequently points out: don't watch what they say. Watch what they DO.

(1,770 posts)It's called "rats deserting a sinking ship". No credit for any RW a-hole that helped cause this whole situation. You don't forgive the serial killer when he/she tells you where he buried the bodies, not the arsonist that helps put out the fire he/she started.
