Donald Trump has sustained more than his fair share of political losses during the first 10 months of his presidency, mostly at the hands of the federal courts.
It was the federal courts that struck down his Muslim travel ban on three separate occasions, that blocked his ban on trans people in the military and that did the same to his attempt to defund so-called sanctuary cities.
But the makeup of Americas judges is quietly becoming the site of one of Trumps most unequivocal successes: nominating and installing judges who reflect his own worldview at a speed and volume unseen in recent memory. Trump could conceivably have handpicked more than 30% of the nations federal judges before the end of his first term, his advisers have suggested, and independent observers agree.
The president himself has said that he expects this to be one of his major legacies. He is going to reshape the bench for generations to come, said Douglas Keith, counsel with the fair courts arm of the Brennan Center for Justice.

(58,785 posts)the people as we know it. We are incompetent, you see, and of course the eager fascists/kleptocrats behind this have an excellent point. What they can't see it that they are far more incompetent. They do know they are inimical to our interests, but they see that as good.

(15,334 posts)but fixing our country after these pricks are done with it may require violence

(58,785 posts)if, as Benjamin Franklin famously said, we can keep it.
If those fail and it comes to violence, we will lose. Not only have "they" severely and entirely intentionally divided us, all they have to do is turn the utilities off in any troublesome area. Any strategically chosen combination of water, power, food supply, communications withdrawn, and within two days those people would be far more concerned with survival and worry about their loved ones than what form our government has taken.

(15,334 posts)But the Retrumplicans are hell-bent on destroying the "weapons" of our constitutional democracy.
Democracy only survives with the "consent of the governed". In two of the last three presidencies, the will (consent) of the governed has been circumvented.
And don't even bother to look at how Congressional Districts have been skewed to favor the few.
Democracy can't survive this

(58,785 posts)40% of the electorate didn't vote in 2016, including large numbers of young voters, and 2018 will also be about turnout.
And NO trying to "woo" those famous rotten white working class men who chose what's become a poisonous white supremacy kiss-up/kick-down party. They rejected what they officially claimed to want when they left us to vote for resentment and clinging to special privileges. Some will come back on their own and join the 1/3 of their fellows who would never have done what they did, the rest need to be replaced with people who believe in what we represent.
We need the choices to be very clear.

(47,953 posts)Pence will appoint the same scumbags. Only getting 51 Democrats, or more, in the Senate will stop this madness.

(9,247 posts)That would effectively neuter the little orange shitbag until we can get his ass OUT of our house. Maybe he'd pitch a hissy fit and resign. Or, maybe he'd be IMPEACHED as he ought to be.

(15,334 posts)Then we can remove every last one of these piece of shit "judges"...and I guarantee the fucking people will be with them to do it.
That's the neat thing about impeachment. You don't even need a God Damn reason, just enough votes to say "you're out"!

(42,714 posts)There currently are 46 Democratic senators and 2 independents that caucus with the Democrats. Of those the seats held by 23 Democrats and the two independents are up for grabs in 2018, along with eight Republican held seats. Let's imagine a fantasy world in which the Democrats/Independent seats all stay in the Democratic column and ALL eight Republican seats change hands -- that gives the Democrats 56 Senate seats -- well short of 2/3.
And even if the Democrats were to reach the 2/3 majority in a future year, there is not a chance in the world that they engage in a purge of Trump-appointed judges.
