And it is not just wishful thinking:

It might just be a small puncture in the wall of darkness that surrounds Southern Republicanism. Alabama will not be electing a Senator like Elizabeth Warren any time in the next 15 years, but just the fact that a Democrat has a fighting chance to get elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama could mean that Alabama will see that being represented in Congress by a Democratic Senator will not mean the end of time as we know it. Granted, it is only due to the poor choice made by Alabama's Republican voters in their primary, but hey, the same phenomenon gave us another 6 years of Claire McCaskill as Senator from Missouri instead of the abomination that would have been Todd Akin. We'll take it.
It is not of minor significance that the story refers only to Republican WOMEN. I find it disturbing that no meaningful number of Alabama's Republican men find Moore equally appalling. Lysistrata is still a long way from the heart of Dixie.

(5,810 posts)even thinking of voting for Moore would be to ask them point blank if it was the Democratic candidate facing such allegations by nine women, what would they say about him? How would that influence their opinion of him? Would they ever consider voting for such a person accused by so many and sporting a track record like Moores?
If they are honest, they would admit that if the shoe were on the other foot, they would actively campaign against such a candidate and would never blindly vote for him, no matter which party he represented.

(54,405 posts)It would probably swing ten thousand votes Doug Jones's way if put in exactly those terms.
In fact, I think I'll pass your post on to the Jones campaign, if it's OK with you.
I used to live in Alabama (Mobile) and live next door now (Pensacola, FL). I know people who live in Alabama who need to be challenged in their even thinking about voting for Moore. I Know some people here on DU disagree with me but if you can get people to stop for a minute to consider how theyd feel if the situation were reversed, at least some would realize how far off the charts it is for them to vote for Moore. And even if they cant bring themselves to vote for Jones, they CAN just sit this one out and not contribute to Moores tally. That is not a very satisfying solution for some but it sure does beat voting for a man accused of deviant behavior - even if it was supposedly a long time ago.
