Anita Hill on Biden: He hasn't taken ownership for his role in what happened.
During an interview with The Washington Post, she was asked about Biden's recent apology, in which he said he was sorry if Hill felt she didn't get a "fair hearing."
"That's sort of an, 'I'm sorry if you were offended,' " Hill said.
She continued: "I still dont think it takes ownership of his role in what happened. And he also doesnt understand that it wasnt just that I felt it was not fair."
"It was that women were looking to the Senate Judiciary Committee and his leadership to really open the way to have these kinds of hearings."

Former senator Alan K. Simpson (R-Wyo.) in a 2014 interview on the Death, Sex & Money podcast: Id had a wife whod had much more harassment than Anita Hill. And thats when I lost my marbles. I thought, What is this? I mean, for Gods sake, what did he do? Well, nothing. Did he touch you? No. What is it? He wanted to talk about Long Dong Silver and pubic hair and coke cans. Is that it? Is that it? Yes, it is. I wanted you to be aware of his behavior. And so I was a monster. I was just pissed to the core.
Republican Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) in a 2010 CNN interview: I can tell you Clarence Thomas was telling the truth. I believe that Anita Hill was an excellent witness. I think she actually believed and talked herself into believing what she said. There was a sexual harasser at that time, according to the sources I had, and he was her supervisor, he just wasnt Clarence Thomas. I think she transposed that to where she believed it because she was outed by the feminist women at that time and she couldnt change her mind after she couldnt change her tune. And thats what happened.

I would still support him, and even if he doesnt say it I am gonna assume he knows he fucked up and wouldnt again and if he is running against a republican, any republican, anywhere, any time, do I have to say it?
Biden is not exempt from having misogyny be his default position as most men do.
Not EXCUSING him AT ALL. He needs to own this.

(35,454 posts)One of the reasons was that he promised a quick hearing...full speed ahead doncha know.

I love him, dont get me wrong. Ya know what else, I bet Al Franken is NOT Playing this game, which is another reason they want him out so bad.

(12,774 posts)I'll never forgive him for what he did to Anita Hill - and how he rolled out the red carpet for evil Clarence Thomas - who will damage this country for decades to come.

(92,219 posts)responsibility. This was his lame apology:
"The message Ive delivered before is I am so sorry if she believes that, he said. I am so sorry that she had to go through what she went through. Think of the courage that it took for her to come forward.
Sorry Joe, that doesn't cut it, and it sure is taking responsibility for it, nor is it an apology

(108,980 posts)He was in charge of that hearing and he didn't run it well. He made her give her written testimony in advance, and then he set up the hearing to allow Clarence Thomas to rebut her and smear her before she had a chance to open her mouth. And he let the R's ride roughshod all over Anita, including not calling multiple witnesses who were waiting to testify on her behalf and calling that Dogget guy who accused her of having "erotomania."
Those hearings were a disgrace, and Biden's apology, as the HEAD of the Committee, was weak and self-serving.

(43,182 posts)I think the thing was, he has such a congenial personality and I don't think he wanted to step on anyone's toes, including Clarence Thomas, but in that case he really should have.

(3,425 posts)is off limits to democrat politicians. I watched those trials and I was really amazed at Biden's behavior. He was definitely much more deferential to the sexual predator Thomas than to an amazing very credible Anita. It took me years to even like him again.

(7,506 posts)Hatch and Simpson. I knew they were apologist assholes then and now. If they gave a shit they would have checked porn video rental places and found Thomas a big user. Holding that prick responsible would have put a stop to much of what we are facing today.
