But if there was, I have no doubt plenty of people would have.
As for that generation now that it's in its 60s -- well, there are lots of things my father wouldn't have done at age 60 that I would have no problem doing.

(22,037 posts)The hackers were bad. No question about it.
But the material was out there. Why would women make these personal pictures available in cyberspace? We've heard time and again that the internet is permanent. If you post it, you have to own it.
Regardless of all of this, I believe we live in a dangerously restrictive society that denies far too much about human sexuality.

(5,611 posts)is so risky, and thats even when you know and trust the person to whom you are sending them. I always seemed to be in long-term relationships, and these photos seem to be sent to people that the sender is trying to entice into a sexual relationship (I guess nude art is beautiful but not these nude selfies that weve been seeing lately!) Of course the problem is they are out there forever and why a CONGRESSMAN would do this is just totally beyond me. There is a recklessness about it that is amazing.

Much different set of facts. Barton, scum as he is in terms of his politics, was separated from his wife, and communicated with women he had an intimate relationship with.
I didn't think (and don't think) what Bill Clinton did disqualified him from being President and I don't think what Barton did disqualifies him either. That said, I hope the voters in Texas vote him out of office for whatever reasons that they might have.

Believe me, Polaroids leave something to be desired (even though I've seen 'em). If there had been phones with cameras 2000 years ago, then teens would have sent pictures.
I guess what doesn't make sense are 30-40+ year olds sexting. Seemed to make sense when you're young, but not as much now.
Age changes your perspective.

The_jackalope
(1,660 posts)It was the 1960s, for god sake. Michelangelo Antonioni's movie "Blowup" had just made photography THE hot hobby in 1966.
Of course there were nude pics floating around, lots and lots and lots of them. And of course some current DUers took and/or received them. The odds of anything else are the same as the odds of Jared actually having a faulty memory.
Yeah, Barton is a sleazebag, but I let go of my pearls on the issue of nude photographs in about 1967.
Eyes on the prize and all that.

The_jackalope
(1,660 posts)There are probably enough skeletons in my closet to stock a catacomb.
The issue isn't the pictures. It's how, and by whom, they get used. That's all I'm saying.
Your self-preservation instincts were good. Lots of people don't have them, and if it's not photos that catch up with them, it's hot little notes on non-biodegradable paper, or something else equally incriminating.
