NJ Sen. Lautenberg Planning to Reintroduce Gun Control Legislation In Wake Of Colorado Shooting
Despite all of the calls not to politicize the Colorado shootings last night, gun control advocates have been demanding that politicians use it as an opportunity to take action on national gun laws. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said earlier that they dont want sympathy from President Obama and Mitt Romney, they want action. It is with all of this in mind that New Jersey senator Frank Lautenberg is planning on reintroducing gun control legislation on the Senate floor to limit high-capacity magazines.
According to The Huffington Post, Lautenberg brought similar legislation to the floor following last years shooting in Arizona involving former congresswoman Gabby Giffords. At the time, Lautenberg said that the only reason to have 33 bullets loaded in a handgun is to kill a lot of people very quickly and pledged that he would introduce legislation to ban high-capacity ammunition clips.
Lautenburgs office sent this statement to the Post earlier today:
If reports are correct and a high-capacity gun magazine was used to commit these awful murders, Senator Lautenberg will absolutely renew his effort to limit the availability of this dangerous firearm attachment.

(2,921 posts)NOT the extended ass-banging shoot-em-up-cuz-I-am-so-insane-and-crazy 1,500 round mag.
7 or 9 rounds. Period. No more.
Revolvers have 6 rounds. That should be the standard for everyone.
And make the exchange of clips extremely difficult for ANY standard gun. They have to enter a code, then pass the biometric test before the clip can be released. I don't care if that's any more dangerous. The idea is gun safety.

(56 posts)is 30 rounds. Virtually every AR comes with a 30 round mag from the factory.
Most pistols have a standard capacity if 12-17 rounds. The two most popular handguns carried by police are the Glock 17 (9mm) and Glock 22 (.40 cal) which have standard capacities of 17 and 15 rounds respectively. The only handguns with less than 10 rounds in standard capacity are super small pocket pistols and revolvers.
The difficult mag change thing is so silly I'm not even going to address it.
