I'm a bit of a grammar nazi myself. I think it might have to do with either your browser or your input device. I think some phones have that problem, too. I've seen it discussed here before.

I post from my home PC on Chrome and don't have the problem. At least to the extent that I can blame my equipment.

Thought I’d just made a typo, but tried to edit it a couple times and it wouldn’t print the apostrophe.

a special character that DU no longer supports in subject lines. It works fine with standard keyboard apostrophes, as you see in my subject line.

I guarantee that the normal low-ASCII code apostrophe is appearing just fine in subject lines.

.

It might have to do with the ASCII code page that's being used here, versus the Unicode on most sites.

Oh, there was some HTML lockdown that occurred a while ago. I think it started then.

they've filtered a number of unicode characters out for rendition in post subject lines.

Some mobile devices automatically substitute the unicode single quote mark when you enter text.

Subject should read... Apostrophe “ ’ ” and the inch character “ ' ” are different characters...

Left quote “
Right quote ”
Single left quote ‘
Single right quote ’ (this is a proper apostrophe)
Inch character " (corrected)
Foot character ' (corrected)

Sometime auto correct will replace the inch and foot characters with typographer's quote characters.

What do you see in this post? It may depend on your device OS.
