But as to the role of the rolls, they were a sidelight to the turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes.

And, yes, to my mind, God has a ROLE in Thanksgiving, however you may conceive of God. I'm not sure God really likes rolls, though...

I think your off a bit on the Crusades and Armenian Genocide. Plus the Jewish holocaust by the Nazi's was less about religion and more about state sanctioned racism and hatred. The Jewish people in Germany could have been pro-Nazi, and would have still suffered the same fate..just because. Much like certain elements in the GOP will never consider people of color, even if they vote their way...citizens.

18. Truth is, if everyone learned "correct" grammar and spelling we'd all still talk like Shakespeare.
Sat Nov 25, 2017, 09:36 PM
Nov 2017

Or even like Chaucer.

We don't talk like Shakespeare or Chaucer simply because generation after generation people can't be bothered to learn "correct" grammar and spelling. Most people today don't even know the difference between "thee", "thy", "thine", and "thou", or how to correctly spell "felaweshipe" (They spell it "fellowship" these days, the ignorant fools).

Fact: If previous generations had "followed the rules" English would still be properly spelled this way:

At nyght was come into that hostelrye
Wel nyne and twenty in a compaignye,
Of sondry folk, by aventure yfalle
In felaweshipe, and pilgrimes were they alle,
That toward caunterbury wolden ryde.

There are two things that are always true of the English language: 1) It's always changing, and 2) the older generation is always complaining about the changes, calling them ignorant (which, of course, they are). But if you're going to call a change "ignorant" don't forget to call all the changes we, ourselves, have embraced as "ignorant" as well.

Any changes from this point on are simply errors that must be corrected.

(And Brits, of course, will need intensive re-education in proper English.)
(And in Oz they don't really speak it at all any more.)

turned out, when they were allowed, people used them to complain about the county/city/local admins. and pointed to Things That Need Improving.

editor decided to replace the letters with his own "thumbs Up" and "thumbs down" segment.
the hilarity ensued at how much of a stretch he made to find things for each category, once a week.

Judging by your sampling of their skills, I'd not allow any rebuttals either if I were them.

Maybe start a local FB account where you can counter their lunacy and tag them? There has to be a way to force them into being accountable publicly for their words.

expressed gratefulness to the Lord that they had "sent 600 heathen souls to hell."

Senator Thomas Hart Benton of Missouri: "the whites should supplant the indian
because Whites use the land according to the intentions of the Creator."

since I consume so little of it. I've seen atrocious spelling errors in online media, even news sources like CBS that have the budget to hire competent people to check things over. I used to get riled over the grammatical errors, but they're so commonplace that I just ignore them, because there are so many severe spelling errors.

At least a spell check program would have let that headline fly, the errors I've seen lately would not survive any sort of error-checking software.
