Trump Trolling Navajo Code Talkers in the Oval Office With Jackson Portrait

Mark Murray? @mmurraypolitics 41m41 minutes ago

Jackson's portrait was in the background of Trump's event with the Navajo code-talkers

At a Navajo veterans' event, Trump makes 'Pocahontas' crack

"I just want to thank you because you are very, very special people. You were here long before any of us were here," Trump said. "Although, we have a representative in Congress who has been here a long time ... longer than you -- they call her Pocahontas!"

He then turned to one of the code talkers behind him, put his left hand on the man's shoulder and said: "But you know what, I like you. You are special people."

The CFPB forced predatory lenders to give back $12 billion to the customers they screwed, so naturally it's the kind of government agency Trump and the GOP hate. This fight between Mulvaney and English over who will now either run it or destroy it is drawing attention to the CFPB, and the CFPB is Warren's baby. She was originally nominated to run the CFPB, but Republicans blocked her appointment. So, she turned around and ran for Senate instead. I guess THAT one backfired on them.

There’s some possibility that they haven’t paid a huge amount of attention to his day to day horrors. And elder Native Americans can be quite conservative. But I do know that their idea of being honored would be impossibly rude to refuse. It means something to the Navajo, far more than it means to him.

are you making a joke (can’t tell with trump stuff anymore as he’s nuts enough to do anything) or were they referencing another show? This wouldn’t even make sense in the fantasy GoT universe.

with Trump. He can’t control himself and has to be an ass constantly — these men, who were part of the only unbroken code-language in WWII, deserved a serious ceremony and the dotard acted like an ass as usual (like the turkey pardoning)

He probably thought that by mentioning Warren in such a totally stupid manner (I think he thought he was being clever — sigh), the fallout from a Stephen Miller or other white supremacist type sticking them in front of the Andrew Jackson portrait (which I hope our WWII heroes didn’t notice), and his completely stupid comment about Obama’s pardons during the turkey pardoning — he’s so pathetic — constantly begging for attention.

...excusing him as a 'dumbass' isn't going to make this any less offensive or Trump any less responsible for the staging of the event with the portrait.

I'm convinced Trump is not only a deliberate and determined racist, he's now of the mind that open displays like this one are acceptable behavior. 'Dumbass' is not inoculation from accountability for this outrageous display.

He's an ignorant, offensive boor. On purpose! Witness the stupid "Pocahontas" comment.... yet again.

He just got lucky. And nobody else on his staff knew (or cared) about the history of Jackson to make a change.

He's a buffoon surrounded by mercenary capitalists. Me and they are far out of their depth, and have entirely the wrong priorities.

That's why he keeps getting away with this shit. People keep making excuses, meanwhile, his trolling/insults/racist incidents are piling up. I think he knows exactly what the fuck he's doing! It's all calculated and he'll do ANYTHING to distract, anything from the incident today or banning transgender people from the military. It's not just that he's dumb, it's that he's completely without morals and can't distinguish between right and wrong.

...he did say Jackson could have stopped the Civil War.

I'm certain he knew of the objections to his hanging the portrait, though, and I'm unconvinced it's just poor planning. No excuse whatsoever for this.

President Bill Clinton signed a law in 2000 awarding the original 29 Code Talkers the Congressional Gold Medal and other Code Talkers the Congressional Silver Medal.

In 1982, President Ronald Regan declared August 14—the day the Japanese surrendered—Navajo Code Talkers day.
