The Obamas (and not the Trumps) might get an invite ...

... to Prince Harry's wedding.

[Washington Post]

“Of course, it’s waay too soon to know who will be lucky enough to score one of those heavy cardstock invitations to the wedding of Prince Harry and his new fiancee, American actress Meghan Markle. I mean, give the cute couple a minute to bask in the glow reflected in that blingy diamond ring before you start badgering them about their wedding plans, right?

But still, it’s possible that the exclusive list could include a high-profile American couple — and it might not be President Trump and first lady Melania Trump. More likely? Former president Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.

Their inclusion is more likely for a few reasons. First off, Harry and Meghan don’t have to treat the Trumps like those annoying family members that everyone insists you must invite. Since he’s now fifth in line to the throne (and soon to be sixth with his brother, Prince William, expecting a third child), the couple might not be under as much pressure to invite the heads of state from all of the U.K.’s allies, even their besties in the United States. After all, the Obamas didn’t attend the 2011 wedding of Harry’s big brother William, reportedly because of security costs for the then-first couple to attend.”

of the British monarchy. But if he is not that far up in the line of succession to the throne, is it an official state event? If not, I don't think he has to invite all the heads of state among their allies and members of the Commonwealth. I think they can invite anyone they please.

Are there any experts on this here?

... and certainly no monarchist, but as a British/Canadian dual-citizen (from London), I’m pretty sure that this will be a huge event.

For example, when the Queen’s daughter Princess Anne was married decades ago, Anne was not not the direct heir to the
throne (both Charles and his brother were, at the time), BUT she had a wedding in Westminster Abbey, officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Archbishop has already said he’ll officiate in this wedding, so ...

And, even if one’s not remotely interested in the Royal Family, nor celebs, this is gonna be pretty big. The media, and fashion houses must be giddy with “dollar-signs-of-joy”.

This event, love it or hate it, will be worth billions in revenue. And it will be milked for all it’s worth.

All cynicism aside, this looks like it may have a lot of symbolic value. Hopefully good. The bride-to-be is American, and of mixed ethnic heritage. I’m not really qualied to say, but the reaction from much of the USA seems to be overwhelmingly positive. The same in the UK.

From my perspective, I hope this event will send Trump into Twitter meldown of such epic proportions, he’ll never recover.

I can only hope.

At least both Meghan and Harry are vocally, and strongly anti-Trump.

Anyway...

Fingers crossed

For instance, they've already said there won't be a public holiday for it:

Downing Street moved quickly to dampen speculation that there would be a bank holiday to celebrate the wedding. The prime minister’s spokesman said: “There are no plans for a bank holiday. There isn’t precedent in this area. There was no bank holiday for Prince Andrew’s wedding in 1986 or Prince Edward’s in 1999.”

However, the wedding of Princess Anne, the Queen’s second-eldest child, and Mark Phillips in 1973 was marked by a bank holiday.

I also saw something saying it wasn't yet certain if they'd hold it in London (probably Westminster Abbey - close to the Palace, so you don't have to shut loads of streets, just a few), or Windsor Castle (where, for instance, his uncle Prince Edward was married).

By the time of the wedding he be may be persona non grata in Britain.

'Russia is the “chief” threat to Europe’s security and the U.K. will remain “unconditionally” committed to countering it and maintaining the Continent’s security, Theresa May said Monday.'

... if and when he lays foot in the UK, millions will be there to “unwelcome” him. Even most of the conservatives hate him.

I’m thinking that the wedding will be either Westminster Abbey or St. Paul’s. Probability the latter.

I’d be very surprised if this is not a huge spectacle. Harry is hardly a “minor royal”.

There might be a bit of “protocol finessing”. I’m sure “they” will find a way.

Regardless, this will be interesting (and I’m far from a “Royal-Watcher”).
