Speaking of Pocahontas, There is a Senator Who Is a Direct Descendant

of that Native American historical figure: Jeanne Shaheen, the Democratic Senior Senator from New Hampshire.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeanne_Shaheen

"Jeanne Shaheen was born Cynthia Jeanne Bowers in St. Charles, Missouri, the daughter of Belle E. and Ivan E. Bowers.[2] Through her mother, she is a direct descendent of Pocahontas.[3]"

I wonder if the Dotard in Chief is aware of that...

Sorry for the quibble, but my genealogical genes react to "direct descendant." If you are a descendant you are direct, don't need to say it twice.

It's a point too fine to bicker about, really. However, it appears to mean a continuous line of birth parents without a break. It differs from cousin relationships, apparently, in its definition.

For more information on the concept, please visit this link:

A direct descendent is someone who can trace their lineage by "child" relationships all the way back to the desired ancestor. A non-direct descendent has to go through a "cousin" or a "by marriage" or some other non-child relationship in order to find the desired ancestor.

The term "lineal descendent" is also used, and has the same meaning:

I was using it to make a point. And maybe educate. Unfortunately, I have a bit of the grammar Nazi in me, could fill a couple of pages with my grammar no-nos. Make a lot of mistakes myself. Such as writing incomplete sentences. Anyway, I didn't mean to offend.
