I believe that the GOP may end the filibuster in the Senate and pass the whole Trump Agenda. There is no guarantee that they will hot change the rule. Now that they have this tax bill they will be desperate to pass cuts to the entire government. They are now in a position to establish a GOP dictatorship and protect Trump. Once they stack the courts with what are really Nazis, they can even help the religious right create theocratic government.
I may be tin hat territory, but so many things seemed impossible. Now even the most crazy seems possible in this environment,

(10,602 posts)They cannot make the cuts they want because the Democrats WILL NEVER give them the votes in the Senate. They cannot get past 60. Their only out would be to blow up the 60 vote rule. And they can do that with GOP votes alone.

(10,602 posts)Other matters require 60 votes. So I believe other cuts are under different rules.

(10,602 posts)There is a looming shut down if certain funding is not passed. The GOP can push a brief funding bill expiring at a certain date. If the Dems do not give them the votes in the Senate they cannot pass and the government shuts down.
Now McConnel can call for vote to end the 60 vote requirement on ALL legislation. It is called th nuclear option. If they did that then they could pass just about anything they desire with control of the Senate. For instance they could pass legislation selling all the National parks or turning them over to the states.
The 60 vote rule is supposed to protect the interests of the minority party. When Obama was president the GOP was able to stop all his agenda.

(10,602 posts)However based on how this bill is being passed, it is obvious that they will not let anything stop them. Besides ending the 60 requirement is up to McConnell and the leadership. If they can get the votes GOP only they can end it. The story was that they did not have the GOP votes to do it. This latest trick indicates that they could be willing to do it.
Now it does not matter how much protest there is. Certainly all the calls and opposition does not seem to have had any effect on this vote right now. The bill will probably pass.
Tin foil hat or not the public really cannot stop them at the end. If they will not listen to ANY opposition what can you do?
Rubio has already said they will go after programs to pay for the $ trillion deficit they intend to create.
