(13,110 posts)Right wing hate TV and radio jump on all protest and spread lies and hate.
The MSM laps it up.
Our Senators and Representatives lap it up.
Obama did not support or protect Occupy Wall Street.
BLM protest brought out the tanks and military.
Keystone Pipeline protest brought out private security and they unleashed their dogs on Native Americans.
U.S. citizens have no one to protect them from the oligarchy.
Our government would mow us down in the streets without blinking an eye.
Example: Kent State.
The media would push the narrative that the protesters were at fault and deserved it.
The police are not held accountable.
We have no say in this country !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(841 posts)I notice that some people will go to protests but they won't join political campaigns because "all politicians are corrupt" or because this or that candidate doesn't agree with them on everything.
But at the end of the day almost all of the progress people have made in this country required legislation or judicial decisions which means politics. Yeah politics can be dirty and many politicians are far from perfect but you cannot just ignore the political sphere and hope protesting and direct action will fix everything. I argue with some of my lefty friends about this all the time.

(30,761 posts)seeking a job as a precinct committeeman or an election judge. They should be working on a campaign for a Democrat at some level. Local is good. Start small. Even if you live in a red area, make sure there is a candidate for every office on the ballot in 2018. Run yourself if you can. Just running for office is a learning experience.
The grassroots organizations, like Indivisible, can be good experience. But they are not enough. Let's not primary our incumbent Democrats or whine about the establishment or who is the most progressive. Let's do some real work.
