GOP passes deeply unpopular tax hike on middle class, sealing their fate for 2018

GOP passes deeply unpopular tax hike on middle class, sealing their fate for 2018
Senate Republicans have passed the worst tax bill in modern history. And Democrats are coming for them.
By Matthew Chapman DECEMBER 2, 2017

At 2 AM on Saturday morning, after an endless marathon of procedural wrangling, Senate Republicans voted to wreak havoc on the middle class.

By passing their massive scheme to raise taxes on 87 million working families, give billionaires and corporations a massive litany of breaks and loopholes, and destroy health care, they bring it closer than ever to Donald Trump’s desk, where he can sign into law a massive giveaway of taxpayer money to himself, his family, his friends, and the moneyed interests who fund Republican campaigns.

The GOP plan polled lower than any other tax bill in the modern era. It was crafted in near-total secrecy, with absolutely no input from Democrats, serious economists, or the public. GOP senators pledged their votes even before they knew what was in the bill, and it ended up being rewritten in the middle of the vote because it broke Senate rules, with hundreds of scribbles in the margins.

the GOP will pay dearly for the effort. They are doing all they can to steal from the poor to give to the rich. A strong majority of the nation GETS IT.

My guess is that the final version will be defeated in the Senate, where a few GOPers will come to understand that passage will indeed seal their fate in 2018. But even now, the damage is accumulating and will overwhelm the party. Trumpy's base, the fascists in the streets, won't see any rise in their power because it's all going to the wealthy elitists. And they won't benefit from the hundreds of billions in tax giveaways because they aren't in the proper tax bracket. Whole swathes of them will become disillusioned and withdraw. When those common fascists can't get medical care and can't get a living wage, they'll get pissed and get the miraculous insight that they've been played.

The real pain this causes won't be felt until after 2018 when people start filling their tax returns for that year. In the meantime they may see their take home pay go up by a few dollars and think it's a good deal.

Corporate media will either ignore this or cram it down everyone's throat how good it is. When people really feel it then things could really turn.

I thought I read that if this bill passes it would mean a 24 billion cut on Medicare next year.

We will see the shit start to rain down quickly I think.

We could win big; but, we face gerrymandering, voter disqualification (that will get worse) and a plethora of various dirty tricks. We need to win by a margin to unseat GOP candidates.

We can't win by a hundred votes, its got to be by tens of thousands to overcome republican gerrymandering and Russian interference.

Either converting them to after tax IRA’s for a one time boost in tax revenue...OR a mandate that each 401k holder to buy into a special government bond fund to soak up all the excess Treasury paper.
