The Women's March happens again 2018. A poster said Now is not the Time to March...they energize, yet women should be actively be seeking seats. Well, we have been...
This is a moment for women across the country, Stephanie Schriock, EMILYs List president, said in an interview.
Weve done some (recruitment), but never like this, she said. We have made very good gains over those 32 years, but when a moment like this comes where women are feeling empowered to take charge and take control of their communities we want to be there and be encouraging and make sure they actually run.
Since Election Day, more than 4,000 women have reached out to EMILYs List to say they want to run for office, including 1,660 since Jan. 20 alone. Thats four times the number who reached out in the previous 22 months combined.
Its the latest example of Washingtons professional advocacy groups trying to harness the energy of a grass-roots movement shaping itself into a progressive resistance to Trumps agenda. Other examples include growing financial support for groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union and participation in protests organized by groups such as MoveOn.org outside the offices of U.S. lawmakers. Separately, the organizers of the women's march are forming local chapters, which now number about 700, according to spokeswoman Kaylin Trychon.

This is EXACTLY the TIME for US TO MARCH AGAIN. Do not tell us the how and why of what WE decide is best for our future. We woke the morning after the election to a self proclaimed and proud P***Y Graber in chief as our president and as his supporters cheered. A man and his minions are trying to destroy everything we stand for.
We are woke and we are fighting mad. It is our time.
THIS IS EXACTLY THE TIME FOR US TO MARCH. We won't be silenced.

(12,448 posts)I can't believe anyone would presume to tell us it's not time to march. Oh wait--I can believe it. We're just women, and we ought to let our men worry about politics.
We're taking to the streets, running for office, and making noise, and NOBODY can stop us!

(42,006 posts)Its a clean fury. Unsullied. I embrace it. Second Ill march whenever and wherever I can when women organize for justice.
Third, Im done given the any credit to people who have little apparent knowledge of required processes, or are opportunistic, or dont have a fucking clue about government, yet want to tell others what to do and how to think.

(138 posts)This tax bill is a part of Bannon's dismantling of the US government and all our institutions. All of the shit in that bill may pass but it should pass without a show of force that will equate to the "donor's" threats of withholding their money. Fuck their money!
We can overturn Citizens United by voting the rat-bastards out of office no matter how much funding they get.
We can keep our money in our pockets this holiday and use it to fund our candidates.
I am losing it here. My hip is hurting but I am ready to move out to march with my cane in hand or walker if need be.
May the GOP, including McCain, Flake, and Collins rot in their own private hell.

(83,881 posts)Its kind of scary how it mirrors last year, she say, describing how momentum picked up right around this time in 2016. Im getting calls from friends in Florida, says Siemionko, People want to know if marches are happening in their cities and if not, theyre offering to plan one.
Last year, the first Womens March with its whimsical pink pussyhats paired with a dead-serious message about sexual violence was announced for Washington and inspired sister marches in every US state and several cities globally. An estimated 4 million people marched nationwide, far exceeding expectations. Although the march was prompted by Hillary Clinton losing the election to US President Donald Trump (and held the day after his inauguration) it came to be about all the systems that threaten womens equality, health, and human rights.
Importantly, it was also framed as a debut of a reinvigorated movement, not the culmination of one.

Should you go to one of the January marches, expect to see more tie-ins from other activist and special interest groups. The womens marches network will kick off an initiative to register 1 million women to vote in conjunction with voters rights organizations, for instance. The project will continue throughout the year, ahead of the 2018 National Voter Registration Day in September and Novembers midterm elections.

(13,081 posts)But, the two cents Ive been adding for years:
The biggest difference between Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party?
The Tea Party dropped the antics, put in their grown-up clothes, registered as candidates, and then went door to door.
There have been some amazing successes with Occupy-types. He might not have won the primary, but everyone pays attention to Bernie Sanders now. I cant help, though, wonder what might have been if the the hardcore Bernie-crats (like me to a degree) had all joined the Democratic Party years ago.
A march? Thats a long weekend.
Running for office and registering voters? Day in and day out? Thats the hard work, but in the end the only work that matters.
sheshe2
(83,881 posts)Yep. A long day, not a weekend it makes.
It is and was last year a grand day for all women. I was there. Men women children gay straight trans BLM Muslim...all colors and stripes were there. No sex was excluded and all cheered our cause as we cheered those as well.
If you read the article, these women are signing up by the thousands. Women know all about hard work. We have done it for all the ages.

(90,787 posts)This year's January March in Los Angeles was unforgettable. The national news media kept focus on everything East of the Rockies, while in Los Angeles we had at least 3/4 million people, and likely a million. For hours, my friend and I were locked into place by the enormity of the crowds. We had been told there would be food trucks, but we never saw them -- I can only assume they sold out early and left. I'm glad my friend and I brought lunch, snacks, and water. The Santa Barbara Women's Political Committee organized at least 10 busloads of women who left before dawn to go to Los Angeles. I saw banners from outlying towns all over the place.
Resist!
Hekate, we got 175K on the Boston Common. The Common is not all that big. My friend and I brought water but no food. We had no clue where the potties were...so only sipped the water.
Women rocked it that day and we will do it again in 2018.
BOOM!
RESIST.
PERSIST.

(16,448 posts)I see no reason why timing it at all relevant. If theres a reason it might be that often sequels arent as good as the original. If it were a smaller march the media would fixate on that.
Then again Godfather 2 was better than Godfather, so sometimes thats not always true. Anyway, if women want to march I say go for it. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the last one. It lifted me after one of the darkest moments in our Republic and got the resistance off to a big start.

We need to do this for us.

(36,509 posts)I've seen my non-political friends start to disengage, like they were disengaged before Trump. They were all fired up after the inauguration. They marched. They sent postcards to reps. Now, they're suffering from outrage fatigue. Three of my closest friends couldn't be bothered to call about the ACA a few months ago. I'm pretty sure they'll vote in 2018. Pretty sure.
