Former ethics director: Trump's tweet on Flynn would have ended past administrations
By Brandon Carter - 12/02/17 02:25 PM EST
A former government ethics official said Saturday that President Trumps tweet about the firing of former national security adviser Michael Flynn would have been enough to end past administrations.
Are you ADMITTING you knew Flynn had lied to to the FBI when you asked Comey to back off Flynn? Walter Shaub, the former director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, tweeted at Trump
Before we slipped into an alternate universe of unabashed corruption, this tweet alone might have ended a Presidential administration," he added.
Shaub was responding to a tweet Trump posted Saturday in which he said he fired Flynn in February because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI.

(58,724 posts)Why don't things that would have ended their administrations have the same impact on his?
What is the explanation for this?

(50,303 posts)Both St. Ronnie and Dubya had a sliver of governmental experience - for good or bad - and surrounded themselves with people who were more than boot-licking sycophants. The GOP Congress treats Dear Leader as a petulant child to be cajoled and amused for the sole purpose of keeping him under control. They want his signature and nothing more. He wants ceremonies and adoration.

(3,056 posts)Back in those days, both parties could have diametrically opposed views, and still talk to each other and come up with decent legislation. During Watergate, it was the leading republicans that finally got Nixon to face the reality that they couldn't support him anymore, and impeachment was going to happen. This current crop of "republicans" are sycophants to the false idol of Ayn Rand, who have pledged allegiance not to our Constitution, but to Grover Norquist's vision of shrinking government down to the size where it can be drowned in a bathtub. Trump is simply a signature on the evil they create. They know he'll sign anything that's cruel enough to punish poor people for being poor, because as Rand taught them in "Atlas Shrugged", it's all their own fault.

(14,572 posts)He is exponentially more horrible than any other POTUS, but in our lifetimes only republicans can be like this.
Nixon was WELL of the rails. The romantic story is that republicans went to him and told him he had to resign, but only after they got behind him to get him reelected and enabled it for half a decade.
Reagen had Iran Contra - his admin faciliated the domestic sale of illegal drugs to fund giving arms to Iran.
IRAN.
But, hey, he was senile and clueless so you just could not hold that against him. At the same time, he was the GREATEST POTUS EVER!
In my 50+ years they ALWAYS engage in fuckwittery, ball about the press and liberals when they get caught, fight like bloody hell to not be held accountable, and this country always, ALWAYS lets them get away with it.
Their bullshit just keeps getting worse and they get held less accountable for it.
