GRASSLEY IMPLIES WORKING CLASS SPENDS TAX CUTS ON BOOZE OR WOMEN OR MOVIES

After pretending for a brief moment in 2016 that the Republican Party stood for working people, the Republican-controlled Congress reverted back to trickle-down form on Friday when they passed a tax reform bill that overwhelmingly favored the rich. Not to be outdone, though, Senator Chuck Grassley made clear his disdain for those not benefiting under the new tax law.

“I think not having the estate tax recognizes the people that are investing, as opposed to those that are just spending every darn penny they have, whether it’s on booze or women or movies,” Grassley told the Register in a story posted yesterday.

It’s difficult to think of a more condescending, elitist worldview – that if you’re not ultra-wealthy, it’s clearly because you’re wasting all your money on alcohol, frivolous fun and prostitutes (I assume that’s what he meant when he said women). Certainly it couldn’t be because people are struggling to find decent-paying jobs, are straddled with debt from the college education they need to attain better jobs, or are paying outrageous sums for health insurance and medical bills. Nope, it must be because they’re all getting hand jobs from hookers in the back of a dark movie theater while downing a bottle of Jack Daniel’s.

That’s also an interesting assumption that perhaps only the men in a household make and spend money.

Kicking the crap out of people to "Keep em in line" is both ineffective and expensive, and corrodes the soul of the hand that enforces Maybe - just maybe - a guaranteed basic income - would releive pressure on those who fall through the cracks, to an extent that it delivers services far more effectively by being less judgemental.

When the 1% get tax cuts they don't create new companies. They already have money working on all the opportunities they can find. They can't find any more opportunities.

But the little people start lots of small companies and that's where you find the innovation. Not from the safe money.

The 1% spend tax cuts on real estate and art investments, which is (pardon the expression) a circle jerk raising prices for those kind of items without increasing any productivity!

When people buy more booze, there have to be more trucks and truck drivers to move that. More farmers to grow hops and malt. More barristas to serve it. All that creates jobs and puts money in motion.

When Chuck says working people to his white base, they know he's talking about black and brown skinned people. Liberals and progressives seem to miss the point that the white folks he's talking to know that Chuck isn't implying that his followers would ever behave that way - they are his base. When Chuck Steak says "working people" in this context he means people of color, minorities, lazy people, stupid people, etc.

Grassley’s constituents forgot an important lesson last year: their senators and congressional representatives are supposed to work for THEM, not their big donors.

Sun Dec 3, 2017, 07:16 PM

because they've already convinced their base and others in the working class that it is unfair for hard working Americans to be paying their hard earned money to support all those people who rely on welfare and federal handout instead of "helping themselves" to achieve greater personal prosperity; that the lazy people on welfare is why they aren't better off themselves.

Instead of proclaiming outrage, we need to be crafting our own messaging to counter this. Few of our elected officials currently do this well. It's a tough row to hoe, but we absolutely have to do this better. How are we going to do this? What is the message?

85. As insulting as it sounds, he's right - but that's no endorsement
Sun Dec 3, 2017, 08:30 PM
Dec 2017

I did the numbers on my own income, and - unless there's some exotic tax-increaser in the GOP's atrocity, I'm looking at a savings of $269 per year. Divide by 26 pay periods, and I'll receive a tax cut of $10.35 per pay period.

The kind of women Grassley is implying I'm out there chasing with my yooge tax cut won't be impressed by a $10.35 meal, and I'll have to add a few bucks to buy a movie ticket...but I can get a pretty decent six-pack for ten bucks, so maybe I'll do that.

And I'll have to make that sixer stretch a LONG way to numb the pain of what General Secretary Trump is doing to my fellowman, but I'll feel good for a couple of hours anyway.

102. Tell me about it, I phone-banked last autumn
Mon Dec 4, 2017, 12:00 PM
Dec 2017

Tell me about it. The national Democratic Party sometimes details Texas Democratic activists to phone bank other states and I was assigned to call and pester people in Iowa.

I found the experience interesting. While the Iowa Democrats I called were more than willing to turn out and vote for Hillary, more than a few of them told me that they wouldn't vote for the Democratic senatorial candidate, but would instead voted for Grassley, treating him as a sort of elder statesman, despite the fact he was a Republican and had a Republican voting record. I knew my limits, I knew I couldn't persuade them otherwise, so I thanked them for their time, wished them the best, and went on to call the next person on my list.

Well, Charles Grassley has shown how he repays the trust Iowa voters of both parties put in him.

I can't help but wonder if all those Grassley might have done better to vote for Judas Iscariot instead.

103. Grassley backstabbed Obama in the period before the heathcare bill
Mon Dec 4, 2017, 12:22 PM
Dec 2017

was passed by Democrats. Grassley pretended to act in good faith and work with Obama to achieve a bi-partisan healthcare bill. The process was strung out until the summer recess, and then the town hall meetings across the country began to erode the public support for the bill.

Lo and behold, the next thing you know Grassley was spouting the "death panels" propaganda.

Grassley's name fits him like a glove, because he's a snake in the grass, and lower than snake shit.
