UPDATE: Progress Iowa Calls on Grassley To Apologize

(from an email from Progress Iowa)
Thought I would cross post this from the Iowa forum, because I know people across the country are pissed about Grassley's denigration of the 99%

UPDATE: Progress Iowa's petition calling on Senator Grassley to apologize received more than 600 signatures in less than twelve hours. And according to Open Secrets, during the 2016 election cycle, Grassley accepted nearly $175,000 in donations from industries he claimed are to blame for our country's economic problems, receiving $120,125 from "TV/Movies/Music" and $53,799 from "Beer, Wine and Liquor" -- will he give it all back?

Progress Iowa Calls on Grassley To Apologize

Des Moines, Iowa -- After voting at nearly 2:00 Saturday morning to raise taxes on working families in order to give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires, Senator Chuck Grassley justified his vote in part by stating "I think not having the estate tax recognizes the people that are investing, as opposed to those that are just spending every darn penny they have, whether it’s on booze or women or movies."

In response, Progress Iowa executive director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement calling on Senator Chuck Grassley to apologize:

“Senator Grassley owes an apology to his hardworking constituents and to every working family in America. The estate tax only applies to families with more than $5.5 million in inheritance. It is the height of elitism to suggest that people who aren’t multimillionaires have wasted their money. Senator Grassley has been an elected official since the Eisenhower administration, and has had almost 60 years to help build the middle class. Instead, he’s done his darndest to stunt the dreams of American workers while tilting the scales for the extremely wealthy. His vote for the Republican tax plan in the darkness of night is just the latest example. Senator Grassley is out of touch with Iowa workers and owes all of us an apology.”

Progress Iowa is a nonpartisan multi-issue progressive advocacy organization with a network of nearly 70,000 progressives. Year-round, Progress Iowa advocates for a stronger middle class, first-class public education, and fairness for all Iowans under the law. For more information, visit progressiowa.org.

were children of wealthier parents who raised them in an environment of expectations. And yet, there's no "Moral Hazard" card played on their support.

If all you have are pennies to survive on, unless you've got clinical depression, you're going to spend every penny you have on survival. If you've got a windfall, you might buy a treat on whatever's left after the bills are paid, but that's typically just a little something to keep everyone going when life is nothing but one shit sandwich to the next.

Those folks who have addictions or are self-medicating because they have no other options don't have the control over their lives necessary to legitimately look down upon - except for willfully ignorant hypocrates who are in reality no better than those they're judging - and are more likely to be far more guilty of being wasteful or frivolous than those judged are.

But I applaud their calling out Sen. Grassley for his ignorant remarks. We have to do it repeatedly, because as soon as these fuckers calculate that the public is past it, they'll go right back to their pet prejudice.

The Grassley asshole will apologize and feel fear when he realizes that he will get voted out of office. Voting counts, all else is time wasting bullshit.
