Bullying Continues After 13-Year-Old Attempts Suicide, Is Put On Life Support

Beyond heartbreaking

LOMA LINDA, Calif. (CBSLA) — A Yucaipa family is living a parent’s worst nightmare — having to say a final good-bye to their own child.

Charlene and Freddie Avila couldn’t hold back the tears as they talked about their 13-year-old daughter Rosalie outside the hospital where she was on life support Sunday night.

<snip>

A journal left behind by the eight-grader, who dreamed of being a lawyer one day, documented some of the bullying she experienced at her Calimesa school.

“‘They told me I was ugly today,'” her father Freddie recalled reading. “‘They were making fun of me today about my teeth.'”

<snip>

They received a message on social media with photos of Rosalie saying, “Hey mom. Next time don’t tuck me in this,” referencing a bed. Below that, it says, “Tuck me in THIS,” an arrow pointing to an open grave.

They received a message on social media with photos of Rosalie saying, “Hey mom. Next time don’t tuck me in this,” referencing a bed. Below that, it says, “Tuck me in THIS,” an arrow pointing to an open grave.

Rosalie Avila’s parents said they received this on social media after her daughter tried to commit suicide.
Addressing those faceless persons responsible for the post, Charlene said, “For you to do that, I mean, you’re heartless. You’re a very heartless person, and you have no compassion.”

The parents have turned Rosalie’s journal over to the police, and they want the school district to do something about the bullying, saying enough wasn’t done to prevent this tragedy.

That, or older kids.
There are a lot of petulant little brats who are supposed to be adults or nearing adulthood out there who think it's cute to bully and harass someone who doesn't fit their idea of "cool kids".

I remember even as late as a couple years ago, online activists at 4chan or Anonymous used to go after adult bullies and brats. I guess the right-wing troll blight has taken over even those sites.

It's just so easy to be mean.

Those little bullies are the dullards and half-wits who grow up to joke about Darwin Awards to feel better about themselves.

They're also the most hysterical when that's pointed out to them.

These are sociopaths incapable of shame, or remorse.

Some people are born missing a right arm. These people are born without a conscience, and that's something you can't grow, implant or transplant. You will never convince them they did anything wrong, because the very concept is alien to them. One can imprison them or even try to eradicate them, but it's useless. They will go to their graves having no regret for their actions, and not having any idea why anyone else thinks they should..

It hurts anyone who realizes how much pain someone like Rosalie endures before they are so overwhelmed this seems like the only way.

Rest in peace, finally, Rosalie Avila.

What is causing so many young people to seemingly LACK a conscience??
I hate to do that predictable "when I was that age" comparison
but seriously, the teens of my era (60's) we're just not like this...Sure, there were bullies, but no "suicide pushers", for God's sake.
You never even heard of teen suicides then -- I'm sure it happened here and there, but it was not at all prevalent.and doesn't serm to
have become so until the Eighties...Something has gone very, very wrong.

unless it was someone really famous. I knew about three suicides, for certain, from my high school while I attended there, two shootings and a hanging. There were also some possibly intentional drug/alcohol overdoses. None of them made the front page even in the local papers.

I've read thousands and thousands of death records and old newspapers. Suicide has always been pretty common, from what I can see, even among young people. The only thing that's new is that more of the stories go viral.

For whatever good it might bring, social media is a power source for bullies and lunatics who would not otherwise have a voice. Just like a loaded weapon gives an emotionally disturbed person the power to bring death to anyone.

Obviously, social media is here to stay, but it does has the capacity to drive vulnerable individuals to extreme acts. From Trump's tweets to a school-kid's taunts; from mass killers posing for selfies with their hardware, to religious extremists getting ginned up with their followers.

Should it be censored? No, that's impossible. I don't have the answer (yet) to this ever-growing problem.

And it's not good that it's so hard to get through your school years without a bully. I had one in middle school that made me finish the year from home. And one in high school that was mostly just juvenile but very annoying. The high school one was in Catholic school! It's a problem that needs to be addressed more.

She is super cute and undoubtedly would have grown up to be a beautiful young lady. Perception for children is often shaped by their peers sadly.

My own kid is going through a rough patch at school not from outright bullying but trying to fit in as we all did. I am constantly telling him to try to keep in mind that in ten years he wont remember 90% of these kids but it doesn't make it any easier for him.

I hope this young lady recovers.

Cruelty seems to be unleashed at the moment and the internet adds new levels of it. I am glad I grew up before it though I do recognize all the benefits it brings these kids as well.
