...being a Senator should be a full-time job.

(94,792 posts)And how is my "goal" supported by posting things on an anonymous political blog that has no influence on what DNC does?
(fun fact--unlike most people here I've actually met Ellison in his role as DNC Vice Chair)

(94,792 posts)Here, I post things that are newsworthy, and I express my opinions on political matters, because that's what DU is for. I'm under no illusion that posting here has any impact on what happens in the real world.

Just wait & see, they are giddy that SJWs are so damn gullible. Ugh.

(5,803 posts)Kind of disgusting to see it used here.

(1,606 posts)Maybe some have personal feelings about it but it's just a descriptor. Neutral and not derogatory in any way, so I don't see anything against using it. Nothing negative intended there. (Have seen folks self-affiliate as being SJWs etc)
I guess my take on it would be those who take that badge of honor are falling on their own swords too willingly, and that is painful to witness. Sucks but true.
MrsCoffee
(5,803 posts)It does have derogatory meaning in that it is incredibly dismissive, exactly the way you used it to dismiss "SJW's" as being damn gullible.
Your take on it is your opinion, not fact.

(59,507 posts)and the person she worked for may have spoken to these women? That might explain why this accusation - that from before he was in the Senate and did not involve someone working for him. If so, some of them had contact with this women from the days she was a staffer -- or if their staff did, it might be that she is not just not anonymous to them, but a credible person.
The Senate contains just 100 people, I assume if even ONE is able to speak first hand giving this woman credibility, then this is not the same as an anonymous complaint.

(59,507 posts)It was clear that it was total speculation. Her accusation was not worse in any dimension to the ones out there and I thought it unlikely that it was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
What is clear is that it QUICKLY got a large number of Democratic Senators to react very strongly. The fact that she was a staffer when she claimed this advance to have happened, it seemed likely she still knows other staffers and maybe Congresspeople.

(2,091 posts)...are potential candidates for president?
karynnj
(59,507 posts)That said there are now 2 dozen Senators -- meaning half of the Democratic caucus - https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/06/gillibrand-calls-on-franken-to-resign-282112
Now, I saw and shook hands with my senior Senator at a campaign rally in Burlington last year, I am reasonably certain that he does not envision a run for President in his future.

(2,091 posts).....if you are not in favor of an investigation instead of a lynch mob.....if you roll over every time a Republican does a hit job on a Democrat......you will not have my vote in the primaries, nor my support.
We need an investigation....not a grand standing lynch mob with politically motivations obvious

Franken is my Senator and Ellison is my Rep, so while I hate to say it, my opinion is a hell of a lot more important than yours.

(28,858 posts)Your opinion is more important to me too...

(94,792 posts)...but that doesn't mean I ignore news with significant impact (see: Six women Senators calling on him to step down).
I do now, based on the Senators' call because 1) I respect their judgement and 2) I see the political damage growing to a point where the risks of keeping him in office outweigh the benefits.

My post was in response to all the "it's an RNC plot" conspiracy theories.
nb - now 14 Democratic Senators are calling for Franken to step down. Guess they're just not as smart as some anonlymous bloggers.

(11,843 posts)Your bias is clear.
I'll call for Franken to step down right after Trump and Farenthold resign and Moore wthdraws from the election

She was planning on running as DFL candidate for governor, but is on Gov Dayton short list to replace Franken. Dont know how progressive she is on other issues, shes young and aggressive as AG.
