Mike Huckabee won the Iowa Caucus in 2008

I can't remember what happened to him after that...

2008 – Mike Huckabee (34%), Mitt Romney (25%), Fred Thompson (13%), John McCain (13%), Ron Paul (10%), Rudy Giuliani (4%), and Duncan Hunter (1%)

I believe that, if Fred Thompson had dropped out of the race, then Mike Huckabee would have won the SC primary and gone on to win the rest of the South and the nomination.

Oh, wait...

A bigger landslide. C'mon teahadists, Block Mittens with Rick or Ron.

You can do it!

than they have now. Thompson was really holding fast to a sizable chunk of GOP voters, and even Ghouliani had his lock on a decent size minority of them.

This year, there's only been three candidates on their side, Mitt, the Paulbots, and the anti-Mitt. All of the bobbing and weaving of Bachmann, Perry, Cain, Gingrich and finally Santorum were auditions for the latter position. Now that Santorum's finally the last one standing in front of the chair when the music stops, he's got the edge.

New Hampshire will finally finish off Bachmann (if she doesn't drop out the day after Iowa), Perry, and Huntsman. Newt's going to hold out for South Carolina, but he's going to be in for an awful surprise in that election, they're tired of his serial adultery and taking Freddie Mac money while pretending to not be part of the problem.

At the end of the month, it's going to be Romney, Paul, and Santorum in Florida, and I think Santorum wins that one. There are a LOT of fundies down in Florida. Yes, there are a lot of transplanted Northeasterners, too, but I don't think Romney really had their hearts, they ditched Ghouliani back in 2008, too.

The Iowa GOP caucuses are representative of nothing, really. Not even Republican voters in Iowa. The actual results from the caucuses are meaningless in predicting who will be the GOP nominee. Sometimes, they spell the end of a minor candidate's campaign, though. That will happen to Michele Bachmann this time, for sure.

But I hadn't remembered Huckabee winning till I looked it up. It was a weird year, not knowing who either candidate was going to be before January.

I was watching a news interview with a pundit, and they said even if Ron Paul does win Iowa the mainstream media will ignore it, and concentrate on who came in second. Unless it is an "acceptable" candidate like Mitt Romney, then the media will be all over it proclaiming the great victory.
