General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsJust thought Id say this about Sen. Gillibrand
I see shes getting tarred and feathered on DU today (which I thought was against the rules) but it must be by people who are unfamiliar with her tireless and diligent work on the issue of sexual assault and rape.
To survivors of rape and assault, she is seen as a champion.
So how does a champion ignore the Franken matter? She doesnt. She clings to the only thing shes gother integrity on this very issue. Otherwise, shes a piss poor champion for sexual assault survivors.

(9,527 posts)Franken has been accused of that by multiple women and apologized for unspecified behavior while not denying he did what he was accused of.
If he did was he is accused of, yes he has committed sexual assault. A significant amount of the Democratic caucus in the Senate seems to believe it's true.

This is hysteria. This is why our "norm" is to take time for due process to work through.
There isn't enough time for that? Really? Gillibrand and Harris, the mob leaders, don't appear to share our normal American values.
Our values tell us to insist on due process, which allows for all the time necessary in order to make sure truth has been found and revealed.

(17,984 posts)What's wrong with transparency? I'm getting sick and tired of this line "Those senators must know something we don't". NO, I will not just take her (or anyone's) word.

(16,470 posts)None of that other stuff is going to matter if the Republicans stay in power. She has made an enormous miscalculation, though in her defense, she is not alone in that.

(16,470 posts)I found in some ways to resemble a conservative logic.
She was bemoaning the conversations about is it assault? is it touching? is it this or that....
Oh Im sorry senator, you mean little things like facts and due process?

(15,320 posts)She has made a move toward more progressive policies, which I generally applaud because people can change and we should encourage that, especially in our politicians. But now, with her actions lately, I have to wonder if it's all just phony politics with her and she'd flip right back to her old ways if she reached the oval office.

(11,578 posts)resignation are way out of proportion in relation to what he's been accused of. The hit piece that was just published in The Atlantic was written by a woman who said Franken "groped" or squeezed her waist. Granted, it was very bad manners but doesn't rise to the level of sexual assault or rape. To say that it does discounts and minimizes the very real and horrific assaults perpetrated against women. Gillibrand can maintain her integrity and continue her good works in multiple ways outside of demanding Franken's head on a silver platter. Ultimately, I believe this would cause more harm than good.

(13,616 posts)let's go ahead and say he is guilty. If we ignore a proper investigation, we might as well say "f**k the law) which let's face it, is what a Senator Moore will do.

(27,819 posts)Exactly who has even suggested that she "ignore" anything?
"So how does a champion ignore the Franken matter? She doesnt. She clings to the only thing shes gother integrity on this very issue. Otherwise, shes a piss poor champion for sexual assault survivors."
Her integrity is not what this is about - Senator Franken's integrity is being questioned, NOT hers.
Her integrity is not the judge and jury here, nor does it render her qualified to act as either.
I'd say a "piss poor champion for sexual assault survivors" would be someone who doesn't bother weighing the evidence before deciding someone should pay the price for something they may never have done.
