Also, isn't it illegal to modify your gun to make it full auto? Shouldn't this guy in the video be in jail?

(1,438 posts)Hey, you asked...
As for the legality of the weapon in question, it's a selective fire Glock 18. There are roughly 150,000 legally owned machine guns in the country. I presume this is one of them.

(30,252 posts)The Glock 18 comes to mind - that might be what this man is using. Used by certain counter-terrorism and military units, a few of them did wind up on the legal civilian market before Reagan closed the NFA full-auto registry in 1986.

(8,020 posts)... you'll wish you had a hundred-round mag.
2. When you go deer hunting, Bambi and his whole gang could come after you. You need at least 100 rounds to stop the deer gone berserk.
3. You can't possibly "spray and pray" with your weapon without at least 100 rounds. That aiming shit... "One shot - one kill" ... is only for snipers.
4. Plinking tin cans.... lots and lots of cans.
There's lots more.
Besides, the 2nd Amendment guarantees we can have 100 round mags, shoulder-fired AA missiles, and nuclear hand grenades.

(4 posts)How about killer drones? I really want one. In fact, I'd like a couple hundred. Does the 2nd Amendment guarantee the right to have one? If not, will Romney support amending the Constitution to include that right?

(1,299 posts)That 100 round drum jammed, extended mags. are notorious for jamming, thats why most gun owners won't even look at one except to laugh their ass off.

(1,299 posts)background check by the ATF. No thanks.
James Holmes didn't have an assault rifle either, but to answer your question, I've never shot up a theater, the only thing I've shot up since 68 is paper targets, cans, pieces of wood, you get the idea.
I would never own any of those extended mags., they're ugly, unreliable. My rifles all have 20 and 30 round mags., that's what they came with which is standard, all my handguns all have standard mags. which are 6-15 rounders.

(291 posts)There are no legal G18s in the US. The one in the video is likely a dealer sample. Which means it is owned by a gun dealer for purposes of showing it to interested police agencies.
The machine gun registry closed in 1986, before the G18 came out.

(17,064 posts)Holmes could have killed more people with four 30 round magazines in only 10 seconds more time. I guess he thought the 100 round magazine looked cooler.

(883 posts)He COULD be put in jail, if that is an illegal mod, but he shouldn't be in jail, because full-auto modifications shouldn't be illegal in the first place. The currents restrictions on machine guns are as nonsensical as the war on drugs.
EDIT: As for the main point of your post, I'll bet you can guess at my position on high-capacity magazines. No harm, no crime.

(950 posts)that we tried 10 years of limiting magazine size and since no one could show that the limits had any effect on crime they scrapped the idea right?

(12,148 posts)after firing only a few shots, it appears.
A few people use them in 3-gun competitions, but reliability is the Achilles' heel there too. I shoot competitively myself (USPSA) with 30's, or 20's on short stages. A beta-C mag would slow me down.
Standard capacity for the most popular civilian rifles has been 30 rounds for a long time, for a reason; 30's are vastly more practical from a size, weight, bulk, and reliability standpoint. I had a 40-round magazine for one of my rifles as a novelty, but everything else is 30's and couple of 20's.

"Hey, Bill, look what UPS brought me yesterday!"
"Whoa...that's cool."
"Let's see how fast I can empty it, huh?"
"Damn! That's some firepower, for sure."
"Wish I could afford to shoot with it."
"Look, Joe! I only see 12 holes in the target."
"Well, if you got 100 rounds, you don't have to worry. You'll hit something."
"LOL!"

We need to set the bar higher. Return to the ammo ban that the Repubs let expire. (they are so macho!)
