If Anyone Thinks Mueller Will End Trump's Reign - Don't Count on It!

That's occupying our thoughts, of course, but it's not a sure thing. We don't know when the report and/or indictments will occur. We don't know whether the Republicans in control of Congress will do anything about them.

WE DO KNOW ONE THING, HOWEVER!

There will be an election in November of 2018. Every seat in the House of Representatives will be on the ballot. One third of the senate seats will be on that ballot. Countless state legislative offices, governorships and other offices will be on that ballot, too.

It is less than a year away. If you are not actively working with your local and state Democratic Party organization already, you should call its office and ask what you can do to help right now.

Nothing else matters as much. We can't do anything about Mueller's investigation. We cannot force Republicans in Congress to do any damned thing at all. We cannot remove President Trump from office.

WE CAN ELECT DEMOCRATS AND REGAIN CONTROL OF CONGRESS!

If you think anything is more important than that, you are woefully mistaken.

But far short of a majority. The question for the mid-terms is, how many Republicans and GOP-leaning independents who don't ascribe to the Trump / Bannon white nationalist mentality would go ahead and choose to cast their habitual GOP votes in a kneejerk manner? I'm guessing a 10 or 15 percent breakaway. This would swing a number of House races. The Senate, given the lopsided ratio of Dem-to-GOP seats being defended? I'm not quite so optimistic.

Are you working on electing more Democrats right where you live? If not, then I'm not interested. Complaining about Republican successes will not help. Talking about "accepting" that bullshit will not help.

What will you be doing personally to help get Democrats back in power? That's the question. Beyond that, I don't really care.

We don't need a win we need an OVERWHELMING win. It's not rocket science... what did we do in 2008 and 2012??? It worked. Do that again, and again and again... Get in touch with people that voted for Obama and Clinton and Sanders and get them to vote for their local democratic politicians. The opposition has gerrymandered districts to their advantage. They have messed with the voter rolls to stop democratic/progressive people from voting.. Don't expect your neighbor will do it for you. Donate what ever you can and better yet get out there and DO SOMETHING to make this happen.. Action...

Ok off my soap box, back to your normally scheduled programming..

That is where we can truly have an impact. Unless someone has extensive funds to donate to some campaign somewhere else, working in one's own local area is the best possible way to promote change and benefit the public good.

Act where you are. Work where you are. Campaign where you are. GOTV where you are. That's how you help make things happen. If you merely watch politics from where you are, you accomplish nothing at all. If you simply discuss politics at any level on the Internet, you also accomplish little.

If you want to win, you'll have to work. If you aren't to work where it matters, then you don't affect anything.

I have friends who live in ruby red districts out here in California and their reps voted YES to the trickle up to the rich tax bill which will SCREW California into hell seem to not want to listen and don't give a damn. One friend DID get a letter from one rep who said that the tax bill WILL help California, and to not be swayed by the liberal media bias. She said WHAT liberal media bias? Yeah, I know.

Well, at least he answered her Her neighbors also agree with him (Of course they're wealthy) 🙄

My friend said we're screwed here in California Hon, and I said yep, we are.

A Deep Blue Dem super majority state, and a few fuck-wad thuglican congresspersons have voted to destroy their OWN state.

The end of the trump reign of terror will be from a political solution, not a legal one.

Trump can't be removed from office through the courts, only through impeachment. He can also leave when his term ends.

The problem with the political solution, even if we somehow manage to reatke the house, is it will still take 67 votes in the senate, and that will take up to 19 republican votes. Which ain't never gonna happen. Trump's base is theiir base. And there is still a core of senators who want to see muehler be fired in disgrace, so don't count on a conviction in the senate.

As for jail, that comes down to just one person if Trump pardons himself. John roberts would likely be the only person who would side with the 4 liberals on the court to limit the presidents power to pardon. And he isn't a sure thing. He voted with the block to toss the election to bush in bush v gore. It's not written into the constitution and federal law doesn't trump clauses as they are written. The constitution has supremacy.

So chances are, unless there is a seismic shift in the calculus the gop senators use to decide his fate, he will be with us until at least 2020. Sad, but those are the options.

Hoped this january medical exam might be a way out. He claims and is sick and resigns, probably negotiating non prosecution. I think he is having TIAs. I have had, and the verbal stuff is one cue.

The problem w resigning is that he couldn't pardon all of his family, so maybe he won't under any circumstances, unless he did it on the way out. Of course, they still have state charges, potentially.

pardon any person for a crime against the united states. himself, family, even putin.

Whether that would hold up will come down to john roberts. If there is another opening on the court from our side, it will be a done deal in his favor.

But state charges are another issue. Which is probably why the feds are coming down on cuomo. They want a republican governor or enough leverage to force cuomo to pardon trump.

held till then, are supremely important, and is our 2nd of our 2 most important tasks.

The first task, most supremely important, is our constant voices, together, in prodding our US House and US Senate reps, as well as our state reps to do the right thing, by continuing to refute the false rationalization of their actions, in the many different ways available to us all.

In a way, this whole tRUMP and/or repug thing that we're undergoing now is a good thing...we are seeing the true nature of these people in action, not words.

We SEE you now!

Actions speak much louder and resonates in our minds much more effectively than words on paper, and these actions will be far more difficult to defend later.

It's mobilizing all of us, not just here at DU, but everywhere else in the D universe. I can already see it happening in discussions w/ many folks I know, of how crazy things are.

Thanks for posting.

I see a lot of lionizing of Mueller also which I think is unwarranted. He has a task and we hope he follows through faithfully and diligently and justice eventually prevails, my cynical side sees him as also an establishment figure.
