We don't.
Wake up DU-ers. 2018 is less than a year away. We're not going anywhere (except down) as far as the House and Senate if we don't protect the voting machines.

(574 posts)Republicans want to ensure that the hackings continue. The question is whether Democrats care enough to do whats necessary to jail the traitorous republicans and ensure that our votes are protected.
Surely we have the brainpower to fight vote machine hacking WHILE voicing our outrage at the ratfucking of Al Franken.

(6,974 posts)That racist, raping, putin-loving, pedophile really doesn't need a lot of help down there in Alabama.
However, what will they do in 2018 and beyond to "help" thuglicans stay in power permanent?

(25,251 posts)reversed course to support him. Maybe Putin told them he'd assure them that Moore would win. A win would make Trump & the Repugs look good - that it was their endorsing Moore that helped him win and it would demoralize the Dems to the point of throwing in the towel and staying home in future elections caused their vote doesn't matter anyhow.
We might be watching the beginning of the end on Tuesday.
Sad.

(2,430 posts)Please don't think I'm paranoid, but I've been saying Putin is calling the shots in this nation since Trump was sworn in. That's why all the disastrous decisions are coming down--as long as they are disastrous to America, Trump embraces them. Exactly what Putin wants. Moore will win in Alabama and if Trump doesn't run in 2020, some other puppet will be president. We cannot trust our elections to voting machines that cannot be recounted.

(19,240 posts)The three of them should be more than able to thwart Russian hackers and the usual Republican election cheats---if they want to.

(33 posts)If people would just vote. That's the issue. All the things the Russian's did, and are doing, are moot if folks would take an hour from their day. I believe we should stop all the Russian nonsense and focus on grass roots get-out-the-vote initiatives.

(21,596 posts)Their excuses?
"We don't have time." (They could've made time. It took me less than 15 minutes to vote. Plus, polling places are near your home and on your way home in our blue city. Plus, we had a week of early voting.)
"There's an election?" (Holy crap! Have you NOT been paying any attention at all? What about your mailbox full of campaign info, TV & radio ads and signs everywhere in a two county area. Have you glanced at the paper or online?)

(33 posts)To the reality or perception of the Democratic Party morphing into a party of elitists, which has a turned a lot of voters off. We need new leadership and direction. Fragmented won't win squat.

(21,596 posts)We need a new, young, transformative and exciting candidates in 2018 and 2020.
Barack Obama seemed to come out of nowhere and was, seemingly, destined for the presidency. I don't know if we'll ever have someone like that again.
Welcome to DU!

(62,416 posts)I'd be more worried about those goddamned hackable voting machines.
My theory is that Trump decided to go all in once he was assured that Moore would "win."

(21,106 posts)and know how an election can be stolen here and elsewhere (Siegelman). How do you propose WE change the way votes are cast and counted?
no_hypocrisy
(46,117 posts)with the # of voters signed in the books. Next would be to see if the # of voters who are registered democrats who signed the book come close to the # of voters tabulated for Doug Jones. Next would be to have absentee ballots examined and registered by one democrat and one republican for quality control. And finally if voters could be allowed to tell one member of each party outside the polling place whom they voted for.
It's not perfect but it's better than letting the machines have the last word.
Ferrets are Cool
(21,106 posts)put these into actual application. I see NO way of accomplishing that. Do you?
no_hypocrisy
(46,117 posts)I reluctantly agree with you as tomorrow is the day before the election, you have limited options.
Perhaps if you contacted Doug Jones campaign HQ, they'd be able to at least send these proposals to the right people -- and to be prepared to sue if the same shenanigans that happened to Gov. Don Siegelman when he won his re-election recur.
Let me know what happens.

(19,240 posts)It is possible that the hack has been hacked. And it would not even have to be our own law enforcement. If I were China, I would see the attack on the US middle class as very bad for business since they sell us so much stuff. Since I buy oil from Russia, I would not come out and say how bad it is for business--but I might be tempted to pit my hackers against their hackers. Who has the best hackers? Anyone know? As long as we have e-voting, those folks will be our lords and masters.
