I said that despite dubious reports I hadn't considered all the facts about her, and hadn't taken the time to consider her point of view, but was feeling immense pressure to make an immediate decision, so I won't support her.
Was that wrong?

(3,515 posts)I'm very much in favor of single payer. There are many ways to organize it. I would want to know whether the private, for-profit insurance companies donate to her.
She went to private schools according to Wikipedia. I want to know to what extent and how sincerely she supports public schools.
I have a lot of questions about her.
She does not seem to me to have lived a life that most Americans would identify with.
Hillary seemed not to be "like me" for a lot of Americans. We need a candidate who can speak to and who really, personally knows, the experience of the vast majority of Americans who are forgotten by a certain snooty bunch in our country.

(10,952 posts)self destructing all by herself. I don't think that she was subject to any pressure but made a politically calculating decision.
Elected officials take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. The Democratic Senate "Brutus" crowd renounced their oath when they exerted pressure on Al Franken to resign. They denied him the right to an ethics investigation when there was every appearance that he was a victim of a Roger Stone (2017 verstion of Lee Atwater) hit job. They rushed to serve as judge, jury and executioner denying due process and taking the rights away from the people of Minnesota.
What destroys their self righteous position is that they did not call out Tweeden for the incident (caught on video) of her sexually harassing a performer on stage during an USO Tour. If you watch the video it was clear that he didn't appreciate her attention. They have also failed to put maximum pressure on Trump to resign or for Moore to be denied a seat in the Senate should he win his election. Why do they hit back only at their own while failing to take on the Republicans who have been accused of sexual misconduct?
They may not control Congress but there are other creative ways to handle things. For example, they could hold hearings outside of Congress to allow the women with allegations against Trump and Moore to have their time to provide evidency of their allegations.
The actions of the Gillibrand posse smacks of hypocricy.

Gillebrand and some female democrats organized to call for Franken's resignation without due process but I don't think it could have been accomplished without Chuck Schumer bringing in the rest of the Democrats, as well as Bernie Sanders.
Schumer, as minority leader, has the same power that Harry Reid wielded. The move against Franken would not have been successful without Schumer's organizing. Few Senators will buck their leader if he deems a particular unified action important.
Sen Schumer so far has been successful in working with Trump on a few issues. He clearly has a strategy-I think most of us do not know what it is.
Last year Schumer sided with Bernie on analysis of election 2016 and focused on blue collar male votes. This year, following the women's push, he seems to be focusing on the votes of women. Unfortunately I think he has unnecessarily exacerbated a divide.

I do not like what she has done to Franken, but is there anyone who has been perfect?
She has, btw, wiped out the opposition in all her House and Senate elections.

I think she made a big mistake regarding Franken, as did others.

(25,183 posts)I lived in NY for ten years, just moving to SC this last year, but I do remember the circumstances that she got the Senate seat. If Caroline Kennedy had bothered to vote in the elections she had registered to vote in, we would have never heard of Gillibrand. She would have remained in her House district, taking NRA money.
But, where there are opportunities, some will seize upon them...

(25,183 posts)So, you have a lot of time to get the facts, listen to the opinions of others on those facts, and make up your own mind. Blindly supporting a person or a position without informing oneself is not a hallmark of intelligence.
