Of course not...
WASHINGTON Sen. Bernie Sanders on Sunday warned against jumping the gun in pursuing impeachment charges against President Donald Trump and maintained that any potential proceedings should not be partisan.
I think there is a process that has to be followed, the Vermont independent said on NBC's Meet the Press, urging Democrats to wait for special counsel Robert Muellers investigation on Russian attempts to interfere in the 2016 election to play out before starting any kind of formal impeachment process.

Impeach the President? Bernie Sanders says 'I don't think we're there right now'
I think Mr. Mueller is doing a very good job on his investigation, Sanders said. If Mueller brings forth the clear evidence that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians, I think you have grounds for impeachment.

I think jumping the gun does nobody any good, he said. You have to bring the American people onto this issue. You dont want to make it into a partisan issue. If were going to go forward with impeachment, I want the American people clearly to understand why that is the case, why it makes sense, why its the right thing to do. I dont think were there right now. Thats what the Mueller investigation is all about.

(22,913 posts)Around here he is usually blasted for not supporting Democratic unity, but usually he stops short of upending Democratic strategy. His role in the Obamacare debate is illustrative of that - he tossed no grenades although he clearly preferred moving toward Single Payer. I have no doubt Bernie wants Trump impeached. While not as quite as certain about it, I think Pelosi does also. It can't happen while Ryan is Speaker - lots of political calculations going on now about timing and framing for that initiative.

(4,377 posts)If we move too early and fail, then it becomes 10 times harder to do it again. Considering Mueller is still working hard and uncovering new evidence, it is logical to wait until the case is totally inarguable and the public are fully on board.
It sucks because we need to get rid of the orange asshole ASAP, but we also can't risk messing it up and losing the war by rushing the battle.

(25,183 posts)If you get this shot down while GOP'ers are still afraid of Trump, then it becomes so very much more difficult to do this later on, in especially, God forbid, a second term.
I think the public's on board, but you need a majority in the House, and to at least be able to hold on to a near-majority in the Senate before you get into this thing. It is very, very important to get those things accomplished in the 2018 elections. If the Republicons run the table in the 2018 Senate elections in the states that voted for Trump in 2016, then it's going to be nearly impossible to impeach Trump.
Ever.

(6,043 posts)in Sanders view. A Democratic senator does not merit due process?
Otoh, Trump is in the power position and the old saying about "if you go against the king"........... might apply.
Can't help thinking that sociology was at work here. Failure to call evil to account in terms of the president, resulted in identifying a scapegoat to punish in order to demonstrate that we are on the side of good.
