Why republicans can listen to base and do and why democrats cant and dont :

Republican base can shout, be racist, anti-science, anti health care, anti decency: it doesn’t harm the bottom line of powerful monied donors, infact it benefits them both to keep the country divided over hate and environmental and other issues.

Democrats on the other hand have to ignor their base because what they, we, want will definitely hurt the donor power structure bottom line like clean air, health care for all, state of the art free education etc:

This is why the narrative always goes against the good efforts of the Democratic Party!

Case in point is the whole Al Franken ordeal: damned if we do damned if we don’t. Notice now all the discussion is about due process for Moore and Trump. That was not the narrative when press et al were destroyed the good name of one of our best!!!

Keep us divided.

That does not go for us in CA

We vote Dem and the base is part of our governance.

Your ideas keep people away from voting so you get the result you complain about. A self fulfilling prophesy.

In 2018 we are going to get many new candidates at all levels and if we would all turn out there would be no stopping us.

But your OP contributes to the "why bother" attitude that keeps people from voting.

movements all over and most were under the radar until the lest round of elections. Notice was taken.

As long as corporations rule and money buys politicians we should be able to point out how that effects our Democratic
Party’s ability to be heard and respected by the powerful monied elite.

biggest battle of our time and why we have such corruption and why we need to change money in politics. We are already proving, Bernie, that we can make it without corporate and wealthy donors.

5. Republicans own the media!!!
Sun Dec 10, 2017, 04:50 PM

All the heads of all the major networks are conservative.

They have 97% of the country's local radio stations at their disposal.

They have 100% of the local television stations at their disposal.

They have a near monopoly on most of this country's major newspapers.

Fox News is played in more public places than CNN or MSNBC.

They can say what they want and get any average joe to agree with them, and denounce anyone who doesn't follow their agenda as being part of the "loony left wing hate machine".

It's that simple. They have an iron grip on the media, if we want to get your average joe on our side, we have to start taking back the media. And it starts at the local level.

The extreme left and the extreme right both want things that would be detrimental to the overall economy, at least in the short-term. Republicans don't care, so long as their wealthy donors are taken care of. Democrats do care, so they act cautiously and incrementally, and that tends to piss off parts of their base.

right now and it is because of money in politics. Trump is president for god’s sake and people still support him and republicans still feed their vile base and the media, corporate donors, act like like this is normal. The democratic base, you know, clean air, science, progress etc, are not crazy fringe, just keep getting ignored because of the bottom line mighty dollar from donors. Democratic politicians have to rely on corporate money to win thus their base doesn’t get the megaphone and front stage because the politicians wouldn’t get the money to win.

Democrats could sweep the land if we could get money out of politics. The corporate media gives too much aid to the right even though the country leans more left and would even more if they could hear more truths being told.

For them, all the voters are their "base" because they have a much larger group of reliable and consistent voters who will vote R every time no matter what. It's not so much they can listen to their base as they don't have to worry about pissing off large groups of potential voters who view themselves as the true base of the party and feel the need to be catered to. People on the right do get pissed off, but they will still vote in order to keep our side from winning. Plenty of moderate conservatives voted for Trump.

You would think we would see that and learn. Consistent voting every time will get you what you want. But nope.
