Something to keep in mind about the Mueller investigation

Trump has said any probes by Robert Mueller into his family business would cross a red line, implying that any such inquiries would be outside Mr. Mueller's mandate thus permitting Trump to fire the Special Counsel "for cause."

According to the Special Counsel's appointment, the investigation only starts with any connections between Trump's campaign and Russians. Mr. Mueller is also authorized to investigate any matters the arise from his investigation.

From Wikipedia:

On May 17, 2017, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller, a former Director of the FBI, to serve as special counsel for the United States Department of Justice (DOJ). In this capacity, Mueller oversees the investigation into "any links and/or coordination between Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump, and any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation". As special counsel, Mueller has the power to issue subpoenas, hire staff members, request funding, and prosecute federal crimes in connection with the election interference.

This is why the guilty pleas from Flynn and Papadopolous along with the indictments of Manafort and Gates are important. Those legal actions are not related to Trump's campaign and any Russian influence. Mr. Mueller has already shown that he can and will bring charges that are ancillary to the investigation into Russian election meddling.

When Trump starts sputtering about Mr. Mueller's searches of his finances, remember the broad mandate that the Special Counsel has been granted.
