(130,972 posts)Martin O'Malley is heading to Charleston to stump for two South Carolina Democrats.
He will be in Charleston on December 16 to speak at a rally, knock on doors and headline a happy hour event at Charleston's Bay Street Biergarten. He's backing Joe Cunningham, who is running for Rep. Mark Sanford's seat, and Cindy Boatwright, a state House candidate.

*The only way were going to be a majority governing (party) is by first winning back our states. Weve lost so many statehouses and so many governors offices that in order to lead our country we first need to win back our states, OMalley stated.
But OMalley is optimistic, saying hes seeing encouraging signs.
Theres a wellspring of new activism and new candidates that I think are going to emerge after the grief of this last election. And youre going to see it in New Hampshire and every other state. I predict youre going to see more young people running for office than youve ever seen before. And thats a very positive thing for our country, he said.
OMalley told the crowd that reforming the Democratic Party wont come from inside the Beltway in Washington. Its going to come from you. Its going to come from all of you here in New Hampshire, in Maryland, and in other states across the United States. Thats how our partys going to be reformed.
And thats how were going to get our country back. And when our party comes back, and surely we will, its going to be a much more distributive and inclusive, a much more network sort of party, than weve known in the past, he added.'>>>

(7,522 posts)Like Sherrod Brown, who is going to have his hands full winning re-election. He can't be out campaigning for others, but if he wins would be one of my top choices in 2020.

(7,522 posts)Pay what forward? Again, how does a 2018 candidate help other 2018 candidates (which was the premise of your post) when they are running themselves?

(70,121 posts)that is my personal philosophy now more than ever- it you want to win at the top, lift up the bottom.
