Ex-GOP governor stuns with call for Franken to keep job after ‘absence of anything resembling due process’

Former Minnesota Gov. Arne Carlson (R) has called on Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) not to resign his Senate seat over sexual harassment allegations until he can receive “due process” from the Ethics Committee.

The Star Tribune reported that Carlson’s remarks were made in a Sunday posting on his blog.

“Being a victim can be painful but the answer to an injustice cannot be to create another injustice,” Carlson writes. “I am deeply troubled by the resignation of Al Franken and the complete absence of anything resembling due process.”

The former governor points to reports that one of Franken’s accusers may have been “coached” by Roger Stone, a longtime ally to President Donald Trump.

Independants will rightly say, "Those D's are so PC they killed their smartest guy with that stupidity".

Which would be kinda hard to argue with.

without due process. He should stay until the ethics investigation is started and concluded and based on the outcome, he should stay or go, depending.

They should have a voice in this too. If they want him back in Washington - he needs to heed their call. He will only get the due process he deserves by continuing as a Senator.

I actually voted for. I have seen him at numerous Democratic Party events here in Minnesota. He is a man of principle and understands that Democrats have the better interests of people in mind. He and Richard Painter are good in my book.

…..Moore will be elected by a squeaker. He will then be investigated by the Repugs which will make them appear to be following the rule of law, (butter wouldn't melt), seize all the headlines on "supporting women" and then once he's removed, a non-tainted Repug will be appointed for his seat.

The double whammy here is that the Repugs both allowed "the voters to choose", which Gillibrand and company did not allow, and they get the "high road" of investigation as well!

So we'll have lost Franken, and the Repugs will look really good to the general public.

I also just called Gillibrand's office to ask her to quit asking for Trump to resign. Damn! We want the investigation of his collusion and corruption to play out and for him to be indicted and brought down for genuine crimes against Democracy and the rule of law itself. She and the Dems with her keep pre-empting due process. Which we need desperately.

We'll then have the competent Pence, because the investigation of Trump will grind to a halt. Pence will be competent in his evil. We'll have a stable Repug majority in Congress and the polarizing Trump and galvanization of the anti-Trump vote will die down.

And we'll have the ruinous tax reform because there will be less to block it than ever.
